We're starting the process of honeymoon planning. We're looking for something tropical, all inclusive, and decently easy to get to from RDU (i.e., not a ton of connections/takes a day and a half to get there). We're traveling in mid-August, so I don't know if hurricanes are a consideration yet that early, or if it's just going to be hot as balls.

Thanks in advance!

We did the Sandals Grande in St. Lucia and loved it. Buffet was nothing spectacular, but it wasn't bad, but they've got an outside restaurant on the beach that was really good. Lots of access to excursions, and it is easily reachable with one connection. Only downside was no casino if that's something you're into.

You are on the edge of hurricane season.

Check out how hard it is to get to Loreto, Mexico.

There are direct flights to the Bahamas from RDU. Not sure the specifics on it though.
Haven't been to the Bahamas myself but you can't go wrong with Sandals.

You could try Aruba. They're outside of the hurricane belt so you wouldn't have to worry about that.

This makes me realize that I want to take a vacation this year.

are you a yankee? if so aruba is for you

sister went to Caneel Bay on St. John and had an awesome time. We did the condo thing, but had a meal over there - it seems really nice.

You don't want to have to worry about storms on your honeymoon, so Aruba would be a logical choice. There are some nice AI properties there. As Milhouse says, there are usually a lot of northerners on the island. Another option in the ABC islands is Curacao...much more European feel than Aruba. There's only one true AI but the two Marriott properties usually have an AI option.

We've been to Aruba 4x and Curacao once. We much prefer Curacao - less crowded and much better snorkelling. For a honeymoon, I'd probably lean towards Aruba. There are two large beaches on Aruba and most of the hotels are clustered on them. There are lots of watersports and activities in that area.

Curacao has small, cove-like beaches which are great for snorkelling. We took the AI option, using points, at the Marriott and found the snorkelling off their beach to be superior to anything we've seen on Aruba. OTOH, I didn't see any jet skis or parasailing on Curacao.

How is flying to and from the ABC islands?

We were married in July and went to Turks and Caicos. As I recall, my research seemed to show that it's not as prone to hurricanes as many of the other islands and we had perfect weather while we were there.
Calm place, not much nightlife if that works for you. Not much shopping. Just awesome beaches and great snorkeling. Good food.
I perseverated on the choice forever but we were both very happy with Turks and Caicos.
This is where we stayed. Not sure if they had all inclusive, we wanted to eat around the island a bit http://www.windsongresort.com/

Aruba should be easy. Curacao usually means connecting in Miami on American. Insel has a non-stop from CLT to Curacao, but it's a Saturday afternoon flight which is probably out for you.

Punta Cana was where we went. Stayed at the Excellence. The resort was great. We were on the Atlantic side, and there was some freak weather for December/January so we couldn't get in the ocean all week. That sucked. The pool was great though.

We did punta Cana as well. Resort was called Majestic. Awesome spot and direct flight from CLT.

We did La Toc on St Lucia. Direct flight from Clt that was $400 apiece, and if you stay in the butler level, you can eat at the exclusive level restaurants at the other two St Lucia Sandals resorts. We had dinner at the Grande one night and Halycon the next.

I'm going to Turks and Caicos in April.
Anything I shouldn't miss?
