The WF men's and women's tennis teams start their seasons this weekend. The men play a double header Saturday and the women do the same on Monday, both at the WF Indoor Tennis Center.

The men are ranked 20 in the first poll of the season, which is really based on results from last year. I expect they'll move up, probably to top 10, and will potentially compete for ACC and national championships. Romain Bogaerts starts the year ranked 12, Jon Ho is 52, and Max Kan is 102. Noah Rubin isn't ranked because he didn't compete in fall NCAA matches, but he is projected as the best newcomer to college tennis in the country. Rubin is one of the most accomplished division 1 tennis recruits in the past several decades.

The women are ranked 60 in the first poll, which like the men is essentially based on results from last year and will change quite a bit in the next month. This team is deep, with really good players at 4-6 in the lineup.

There will be a lot of tennis on Saturday and Monday, and all matches are free and the indoor is a great place to watch.

Who will play #1 singles, Rubin or Bogaerts?

Rubin at 1 and Bogaerts at 2 in the first match today.

Deacs won both matches today and looked pretty impressive in doing so. They sat a few players because of injury. Rubin won easily at #1 singles in both matches.

Men and women won both of their matches last weekend to go to 2-0 on the season. The men have a big weekend, starting at #12 Duke today at 1:30.

Are Duke's courts indoors?

The match will be played indoors, no matter the weather, as it is part of the qualifying for the indoor national championships.

I like our chances against Duke. I think when people get a chance to see how good Noah is we're going to be a top 10 team, easily.

Their #5 Mengel ranked as high as 6th in the country coming out of high school so Duke was just too good today

Looks like it probably would have gone 4-3 if they played it out. Doubles point is going to be key this year. If Wake wins doubles they will be tough to beat

Agreed. Pretty close match overall, and I think Wake can probably flip one or more of the matches next time they play (in March). Rubin remains undefeated after beating the #36 player today. Wake plays #22 Clemson tomorrow at 3:30. The girls play #28 Auburn at 9am tomorrow.

Women play Auburn this morning in Athens, GA. If they can win, they will play the winner of UGA and Samford. UGA began the season ranked #5 but are currently #10 after losing a close match at Baylor last weekend.

Men bounced back to beat #22 Clemson today. Lost the dubs and then won 4 singles matches. Rubin got another win over a ranked player and remains undefeated on the season. They play #2 Oklahoma this Friday night at home. Should be a great match. Rubin is nasty and is living up to the hype.

Women lost to #28 Auburn and they play #71 Samford tomorrow.

The men play #2 Oklahoma tonight at 7pm at the Indoor Tennis Center. OK is traditionally really good, and they have 4 singles players ranked in the top 50. Their #1 player, Andrew Harris, just had a good run in the Australian Open qualifiers, so he should be the first big test for Noah Rubin this year.

The #61 Wake women have a busy weekend, playing #74 William and Mary this afternoon at 3:30, and then two matches tomorrow against Furman and UNCG at 10:0am and 3:00pm.
