2017 Atlanta Braves Thread: Acquired Brandon Phillips, Pitchers & Catchers rpt SOON

I was listening to sports talk here in the upstate (SC) yesterday and a guy called in saying he heard that MARTA approached the developers of the new Braves stadium and told them that they would set of a station up in Cobb county for free to get Braves fans there and the developers basically said "thanks, but no thanks".

Any truth to this or just a really bad rumor?

That must be a rumor as MARTA is in NO position to be offering sweet deals to anyone. They have deficits typically w/r/t normal operations / maintenance and they certainly don't have a ton of extra money laying around to install rail all the way into Cobb.

Total bullshit. The existing MARTA lines are nowhere near the Cumberland area. The nearest stop is 10+ miles to the new stadium.

The only way you could do it would be to have MARTA run in the center or alongside 75. Otherwise it would be a condemnation nightmare. It would still take probably 50M to run the track, set up the stop, etc.

Wait, so some random dude calling into a sports talk radio show in South Carolina might not have had the correct information?!

As a lifelong Braves fan I already know what is going to happen. We will be the surprise team in baseball team in MLB this year. Right up to the bottom of the ninth in the seventh game of the World Series where we will blow a two run lead because we don't have a closer.

Alejandro Pena is coming out of retirement.

Giancarlo is going to storm the mound at least once this season. He looks so pissed at every pitch thrown high and even the slightest bit inside.

Guys we might be good. Starting the season with a sweep!

Shelby is legit. Not that it's time to start s-ing each other's Ds yet, but It's pretty amaz how they keep plugging in these midlevel pitching FAs with great results.

Shelby is not a mid level pitching FA. Young pitcher with proven results who is locked up for a while. He was the key to the Heyward trade.

Think he was talking about Grilli & Co. The way the Braves, in a sense, resurrect some pitching careers has to be a testament to Roger. Guy must be a genius.

Ahh yes. Small sample size but I am very encouraged by this bullpen.

Your Mudcats got no hit last night, Say Hey. It's nice to have interesting guys at every level.

Weather is lovely here for (home) opening day - wouldn't be surprised to see a rain out.

Given how great of a pitching coach Roger seems to be it's that much more maddening that every bat free agent the Braves acquire seems to tank once he gets to ATL. How hard is it to find a competent hitting coach?
