more to do with our midfield pairing on the day. its not like Darmian, Smalling, Shaw,Memphis, Young, et al aren't athletic themselves.


Carrick/Schniederlin just aren'tthe most athletic midfield 2 we could have selected.

Yeah, but being slow up the middle makes it hard against Spurs swarming pressing style.

United will look a lot better in MF against teams that aren't playing a pair of 21 year olds in CM.
 
Spurs just give you no time to rest near the ball in the middle third

Do United players just not warn each other of opponents creeping up behind them? A simple "man on" would do...

United have been utterly dominant since the goal. Spurs have barely had the ball in United's half for going on 20 minutes.

Spurs seem a bit more worried about the counter, not pressing in the final 3rd as vigorously now. Gives Carrick and Schniederlin time finally.
 
Maybe it's just nerves, but he definitely doesn't look ready yet

yeah, true. also think Schniederlin settled down after a very nervy first 15/20 minutes. started to just play instead of forcing it.
