2017 Football Recruiting

Any 2016 stats from the skill position guys?

QB Tayvon Bowers 6 Games 78/141 56% 8 TDs/ 5 Ints
RB Christian Beal 8 games 687 yards rushing 6.4 YPC 9 TDs/426 yards receiving 14.7 ypr 4 TDs
WR Jaquari Roberson 9 games 803 yards receiving 7 TDs

Can't find Taylor Powell's cumulative season stats, but as of October 8 he had 76 career TD passes; good for 3rd all-time in the state of Arkansas; trailing the leader Brandon Allen by 23 (Allen was a 3 year starter at Arkansas through 2015, and is currently on Jaguars roster).

I was listening to a Philadelphia sports talk station and one of the on air guys has a nephew who has over 1000 yards rushing in six games and needs about 100 to become the single season rushing leader at his suburban Philly HS. Not a Wake recruit as far as I know, but maybe he should be.

Recent game only played 3 quarters so 2 more TDs: http://www.arkansasonline.com/news/2016/oct/15/football-fayetteville-lights-up-scorebo/

What happened to 94? Was he like our Bagger Vance and vanished into the mist now that we are starting to believe in ourselves?

Some signs that maybe the freeze on 2017 recruiting is beginning to thaw. If you recall, the last word from the head coach was that the staff had 3 scholarships left to give. Here’s a look at the three most recent 2017 offers:

CB Adam Sparks (Dutchtown HS / Geismar, LA)
Committed to Vanderbilt
Wake offered on October 25
Notes: This is the second year in a row that Wake Forest has extended an offer to a CB from this high school in Geismar (located south of Baton Rouge). Sparks turned in a memorable combine performance in New Orleans last spring (3rd best short shuttle and the #1 vertical jump out of 320 college prospects). After Vandy targeted Wake commit Taleni Suhren last year it looks like Wake is trying to return the favor.

OL Sebastian Dolcine (Miramar HS / Miramar, FL)
Committed to UCF
Wake offered on October 17
Notes: Kentucky is also trying to flip Dolcine from his UCF commitment. UK offered him the day before Wake offered. Dolcine measured 6’4.5 / 273 at The Opening – Miami.

CB Joshua Turner (American Heritage School / Delray Beach, FL)
Committed to Iowa
Wake offered on September 11

Wake commit Jeffery Burley lands an offer from Ole Miss

Thanks for the info 94! Glad to see you posting again on this thread after the slow period

Makes sense. We need CB, OL and stud WR's.

The NCAA has proposed significant rule changes in football recruiting rules which include two early signing periods, one in June (before a recruit's senior year) and a second early period in December. Not surprisingly, Urban Meyer and Nick Saban oppose the rule change because they often poach kids that have committed early to less high-profile schools. If passed, these rule changes could go into effect as early as next year: http://collegefootball.ap.org/node/512086

Definitely good moves. Could help us fend off bigger schools while making it harder to poach from smaller schools.

In theory, I definitely agree. I feel like we've been the poacher more than the poachee under Clawson, though.

Yep. I think more kids will sign with the big dogs in June though. There will be few June signees outside the P5. So we may still be able to poach with less risk of being poached.

A kid with only MAC offers is probably less likely to sign than a kid with Wake and other low tier P5 offers. The latter is rightfully afraid of losing a spot.

As usual PhDeac is spot on.

That is significant. It's about time.

Texas has made a habit of signing the worlds greatest juniors, having them rest on their laurels, who then transfer when a hard working 3* beats them out for a starting job. Saban just got a commit from a 3* TE, who he see potential in. Wake will have to get who they always get. The kid on the rise from a good senior season.

Those make up a small number of our commits. And most kids who commit their senior year were on our list during their junior year.

I think it will also help keep the big dogs more honest. When our own Rocky Reid committed early to Tennessee they clearly had no intention of keeping him. As soon as the four star they wanted committed, they cut him loose. With the new rules a kid can find out very quickly how real that offer is when a school won't let him sign. This is much better for the players for a change.
