2015 Football Coaching Carousel: Southern Miss HC to Tampa Bay

Got a link for that? Chad suffering through a bad year at SMU. He has no shot unless Herman or Smart fall through.

They were absolutely decimated last year, probably the worst team in FBS. Despite the 2-9 record, he's doing a good job and he's got a ton of 3-stars coming in next year :noidea:

Herman can't talk and neither can Tanner. Its hard to know what to believe in anywhere there is an opening or a potential opening.

SMU head coach Chad Morris, who was the offensive coordinator at Clemson from 2011-14, is interested in returning to the Palmetto State and leading the Gamecocks, according to sources familiar with him. Sources indicate Morris feels he could win at South Carolina if given the opportunity and could assemble a high-level coaching staff that could recruit. Also, there is a feeling that he could help turn the tide with in-state recruiting given his contacts he established in the Palmetto State during his time with the Tigers.

Ah, recruiting and primary politics, 2 jobs that force you to talk bad about people you probably once talked up.

Does going 2-9 (probably 2-10 after this weekend) in the AAC, including a loss to 1-AA James Madison, in your one season of head coaching justify moving up from SMU to S. Carolina? BTW, Clemson improved after Morris left. I realize SMU was god-awful last year, but 2 years ago, June Jones had SMU bowling.

If it does then, there are really limited options given all of the job openings.

Definitely seems like a risky hire, as you would really be going off of his resume as an assistant, since he hasn't had the time to show what he can do as the head man. I don't think the poor record in one season at SMU is what makes it risky; it is the unknown of how he can build/sustain a program as the head man. In essence, you would be hiring a hotshot coordinator. Sometimes those work out great and sometimes they don't.

Good take, Pilch. Hard to believe Morris would be as attractive as he once was.

If (when?) Miles is out at LSU, could Fedora be in play there? It sounds like they really want an offensive guy as the next coach. He has ties in that region - grew up in TX, head coach at Southern Miss, assistant at Ok St and UF. Plus he just seems like an SEC type of guy - though I guess UNC has been going poor man's SEC for a while now.

Interesting since Houston just agreed to bump his salary up to $3 million per making him the highest paid non Power 5 coach.

Remember, Gene Chizik left a losing Iowa St team, was booed getting off the plane and 2 years later was holding the crystal ball.....and was fired a year after that. It doesn't have to make sense.

Herman has his recruiting coordinator already lined up at SC and either Bud Foster or Jeremy Pruitt as his DC [supposedly]. Offer will be around $4mill. News on the hiring is breaking from sources in the Columbia newspaper The State

I don't see anything in the State suggesting the above although Cocks have a boat load of cash and excellent facilities to offer.

That SEC money is tough to compete with even at a place like SC. Cocks could probably go to 5 mil for someone like Patterson/Kelly but no way they'd ever take that job.

Fuente to VT seems to be about done. He will be good there. And change them to a more offense-oriented team.

Reported this morning that their "source" who had 2 of his own sources as his credible backups, jumped the gun a little and should have waited till next week when the regular season is over. The SC plane has been in Houston 2 times last month and again last week getting this lined up. But it could all blow up if they jump the gun or another bigger offer comes in--like Mizzou. But $4 mill would be a great offer for Herman and Pruitt as DC would be great also, even if Bud Foster has the Illini job lined up.

not only do we have a recruiting puddle but also a donation puddle
