Official 2015-2016 Charlotte Hornets Thread - Batum & Marv back, Lin, Al & Lee gone

I love Steve Clifford. And this team, but Steve Clifford. Damn.

Is Clifford a genius?

He has to be. Like, last off-season's moves are looking so good right about now. 8 games above .500 without hof MKG and with a bloated, injury prone contract clogging the post. I still kind of hate that we let Biz walk, but I feel like this is the best (new) Charlotte team ever.

Unless this is all just the Courtney Lee effect. Could be.

Nice win against the Rockets for 7 in a row, blew them out in the 4th. Boston lost to them last night and Miami just lost to Toronto so now just 1.5 behind Celts for 3 seed and .5 behind Miami for 4th.

Is Clifford a genius?

He is basically the anti-Danny Manning. His substitution patterns and lineups are perfect for his roster talent. He rotates 1-9 (and sometimes 10 and 11) so that there is always a perfect balance of scoring and defense on the floor. He also, other than with rare exceptions or to fuel the #hothand (Lamb, Kaminsky, Al), he rolls out his sub patters regardless of what the other team is doing, so that he tries to control the matchups. As such, there isn't much drop off from the first to second unit, which really shows itself in the 4th when the starters come back in fairly well rested and can pull away from the other team.

It's weird that his rotation is pretty good this season because it's been total trash previously

His rotations were fine his first year the team went to the playoffs. The team was terribly built last year, and people complained about Vonleh not playing more and he still isn't very good.

According to this, the Hornets get Grayson Allen and Devin Thomas goes to the Cavs.

nbadraft.net is not a good NBA draft site. DraftExpress is the best, then ESPN. Grayson is more of a borderline 1st rounder according to them. Also, Hornets don't really need a combo scoring guard do they?

Since February 1st the Hornets are 3rd in the NBA on offense, 4th in defense, and 2nd in overall net rating.

Here's the DX mock from today with team needs taken into account (also 1st mock without Ben Simmons at the top):

20. Charlotte Hornets
Taurean Prince
SF (Baylor – senior)
21.5 years old | 6’7” | 215 lbs
Salary slot: $1,301,900
Insider info: With the contracts of Nicolas Batum and Marvin Williams expiring, and Michael Kidd-Gilchrist coming off an injury-plagued year, drafting a tough, perimeter-oriented combo forward like Prince could be the right move.

We have to re-sign Batum tho.

ESPN:

Caris LeVert
Michigan
Senior
Guard/forward

The Hornets added Courtney Lee at the trade deadline to shore up their depth at the wing, but he's a free agent this summer, and LeVert may be a better long-term fit.

He has missed 14 out of the past 15 games with a lower leg injury. Still, his ability to shoot the ball, play three positions and see the floor make him an interesting prospect if he can convince teams that he can stay healthy.

We might wanna resign Marvin, too. Dude has been balling out. Could end up being a very good bench player & solid depth if we do resign him.

Yeah Marvin has been great and seems to be a real leader on the team. During the TV broadcasts they sometimes have him mic'd up, and he seems to be the guy on defense Omahaing everyone where to go.

I love Levert's skill and talent, but Michigan just wasn't winning games with him. He always seemed to try and do too much, imo. That's not enough to keep me from wanting him in Charlotte though.

Of course after all the good Hornets talk, Hornets putting in one of their worst halves of the season tonight against the Mavs. Absolute clunker.
