College Bball Thread

I would go see what the UVA fans think about this, but The Sabre is just unreadable. Literally the worst message board on the Internet.

Sounds like he might be doing it this way to ensure his top assistant gets the job.

Georgia Tech takes down VCU after a dominant second half.

Monmouth beat Georgetown by 15.

So glad every time this team loses. Couldn't happen to a more douchey/delusional fanbase.

It was adorable when they thought the reason Shaka turned us down was because Shaka was going to be coach for life and turn VCU into the next Louisville.

Just looked through VCU's message board again and there's a 67 page thread bitching about Shaka leaving to Texas.

There're quite a few gems.

Meh, let them live in their fantasyland.

Texas loses in the first round the next three years and VCU will continue to become a national power.

We will prevail in the long run. Look at every single Coach that has left us. Mediocre success, and VCU just keeps making all the right moves.

:bowrofl:

Seems more like his team blows & he doesn't want to waste the energy to lose for another 3 months. He went from retiring at end of year to "who knows"...maybe many more years & then actually today is my last day. I always found him annoying.

Good for you. He was initially planning to retire before this year, but then Gard's father was diagnosed with cancer died so he stayed on. He and Alvarez agreed that the end of the semester would be a good time to announce as it gives Gard time this year to try to prove himself (which will be difficult because the team is not very good).

So he wanted to quit before the season, knowing the team was going to suck. Thanks for the clarification.

Or he wanted to go out after back to back final fours -- I'm more of a glass half full kind of guy.

is it ever ok for a coach to retire? Can a coach go out on top or does he always have to come back for one more year and go out on a lesser note?

u dumb

it's not as though one bad season would have tarnished his reputation as a coach

he literally had 1 losing season...ever...as a head coach, his first season coaching (UW-Platteville)

these were his win totals each year at wisconsin:

36
30
23
26
25
24
20
31
30
19
25
25
24
19

never won fewer than 19 games, never finished lower than 4th in the big ten, had a 72% winning percentage within conference (best ever) and 7 conference titles

to reiterate...u dumb

Really hope it's not due to illness, but it's weird to have such an abrupt announcement.

Just deflecting Shoos's spin. You could also argue that he was despondent and realized that he was never going to achieve his goal of winning the national championship. Your personal attacks are withering and so unbecoming. Thanks for the research though.

Anytime.

Maybe he just needed to collapse on the floor during a game feigning severe back pain, take a medical LOA for the rest of the year, and stick his longstanding loyal assistant with an undertalented team well on its way to a losing record. Oh wait - that's already been done ...................

There's nothing to spin. Bo was an amazing coach, he went out on his own terms and with the intent of helping his long time assistant get the head gig, went to the tournament every year, went to back to back final fours, has always played by the rules and been a stand up guy. Would that Wake had a coach and consistent success like that over a 15 year period. Thinking about what Bo could have done with Wake's talent is depressing. Any questioning of his motives by non-Badger fans who know little about the program is meaningless comment-section tripe.
