Rondale Watson & Andre Washington transferring

From Ya Boy Stan Cotten on Twitter. Think he/she (?) should have made a distinction between regular transfers and those who graduated and then transferred, but pretty sad graphic nevertheless.

Forgot just how average those classes were in 2005 & 2006. Thank goodness for Teague, Johnson in 2007 & Aminu in 2008. Then the classes of 2010-11-12 were just white washes.

We've basically become Calipari's Kentucky and Memphis programs except we suck. Wasn't there a proposed punishment for tournament/bowl eligibility recently based on graduation rates?

Yeah ... that's the real reason we haven't been in the tournament. It's because our graduation rates suck. Thank goodness for Rountree, Devin, Madison and Codi. At least we are heading in the right direction from that perspective. (Assuming they are on track to graduate.)

Green, Rountree, and Washington should really not count as transfers. They graduated. (at least I think Green did).

If they were legit ACC talents they would have stayed. That's the point from my perspective.

There it is folks, laid out bare. This chart is just truly disappointing on so many levels.

No need for over-inflated analysis of Wake's program. This should be the last post on the Board.

10,11, and 12 weren't white washes. Devin Thomas would have been a really good starting 4 on Duncan's teams. Codi, a nice Bruce Dalrymple off guard on a talented team with a Mark Price esque shooting guard. And both would be great 6th and 7th guys off the bench for 2 or 3 years. Ditto for Travis. All would have been great 8-10 ppg role players on talented teams led by Duncan or Paul or Teague or Johnson or Chill. But they didn't have that luxury. Devin is what? the 3rd or 4th leading rebounder in school history? That's not a white wash. And both are guys you probably take out with 3 minutes left in a game (Codi and Devin) because they don't make free throws and are prone to major brain farts). Travis is the only one of the guys you really want on the court with 3 minutes to play and up 2 or down 1.

Anyway, all 3 guys got screwed by having to be an 18 points a game scorer just to scratch to 13 or so wins.

This stat deserves an * for playing with CMM for four years.

You do realize that kids that transfer in good academic standing do not impact graduation rates, right?

This horrific transfer rate has nothing to do with culture or environment or anything other than talent. When you recruit a bunch of kids who are not talented enough to get minutes on mediocre to bad teams in the ACC, most of them are going to transfer. There are a few transfers that had talent, but they were a symptom of the Bzzaster and the coaching change.

Our huge numbers of transfers is an argument in favor of Duke's (and some other schools) practice of never fully utilizing all your scholarships. It is rare to find a decent player willing to be the 11, 12 or 13th guy on the bench without leaving. Those guys all have a dream of developing into a regular player and when it becomes clear after a year or two that it is never going to happen, they leave to go somewhere they can play.

A lot of those guys wouldn't have transferred if: 1) The coach who recruited them originally wasn't fired 2) They were playing on a good enough team to make it to the NCAA tournament.

Just mind-boggling how awful Bz's recruiting classes were. The 2015 class of Collins, Crawford and Moore class is better than any combination of 3 players that Bz recruited over his 4 years at WF. Bz's first recruiting class of Fields, Fischer and Green may be the worst 3 or more man recruiting class in WF history. The list of players under Bz that had no business signing with an ACC schools verges on the comical (Madison Jones, Andre Washington, Anthony Fields, Miles Overton, Daniel Green). Accurate to say that Davidson recruited better than WF from 2010 trough 2014.

You do realize when something is stated in the form of a question, right?

I do. It looked like your question related to the existence of the rule and that you were assuming those transfers would count against us. I was just pointing out that the transfers do not count against us, as long as they transfer in good standing.

Just reemphasizes how much of our current situation is a function of the massive departure rates of the '08-'11 classes and a 7-man 2012 class. I can't think of anyone worse than [Redacted] to try and recruit such a massive class, and with Wellman steering us away form 1-and-done's...no wonder we're in shambles.

I always felt like DT sacrificed team defense for rebounds, in that he would rather keep a body on his man in the hopes that the shooter would miss instead of helping off his man to contest a shot and ensure they miss. I know he wasn't a true center/rim protector, but I thought that a lot of the easy shots opposing guards/wings got in the paint were because he chose not to contest. It's one of the big reasons I think our defense should show improvement next year.
