Men's Golf

Does having the ACC Championship at a different course help us?

Oh yeah - they are playing at Musgrove Mill this year. It has been close to 20 years since I last played there, but I remember being a big fan. Just a real fun course to play, and the greens rolled so pure.

At the 3M Augusta Invitational, Wake just moved into the lead (-20) 1 stroke ahead of Illinois and New Mexico.
Zalatoris is 2nd overall, 1 stroke off the leader
They started tied for 4th this morning. Good final day push so far.

This is being played at Forest Hills.......not Augusta National (duh, yeah)

Zalatoris has 8 birdies in his first 12 holes.
Unfortunately, he also has 3 bogies.

Is it fair to say this team has the talent to get out of the regional qualifier this year?

What happened to the women's golf team?

Early in the season, they had been consistently ranked in the top 10 and looked to be NC contenders. Even in the most recent national poll, WF is #14. In this past weekend's ACC championships (WF All-American Jennifer Kupcho finished 2nd), WF finished DFL (12th), and one of our girls shot 91-95-88, while another shot 92-86-87. Guessing that we had some serious attrition during the season, did several of our players turn pro or get hurt? It appears that we are using walk-ons to fill out the roster.

I think injuries were a huge problem. We added a couple of players last week and they played in the ACC-T this weekend.

That would be like a starting college basketball player quitting the team in late January.

Of all years to win the ACC and/or the NCAA, this would be it. Win for Arnie.

It looks like two of the women that played for Wake this past weekend were walk-ons. This article explains the situation well http://golfweek.com/2017/03/06/wake-forest-mathilda-cappeliez-leaves-team/

Wow. In all the articles the past few years about WFU athletics, that one probably screams "WTF" the second most, behind that crazy women's volleyball coach stuff.

Dailey is a class act and good coach. Talk about the wheels falling off:

Asst. Coach Diaz leaves for more money at "Wheels Up." LOL. Are you a coach or a salesperson/business man? Of course we probably pay Assistants in golf nothing. And that helped Cappaliez make the decision to leave, apparently.

The Brooks chick hurts her wrist, ok, got it. Shit happens and a wrist injury makes sense in golf.

The French chick Cappaliez "does not like the academic workload" and leaves to turn pro. Who is she, Harry Giles Jr.? Why bother attending College?

The German chick Eberhard pulls a chest muscle 4 weeks ago. Really? Is she bench pressing? Cross Fit? It's freaking golf. It's hard to do that playing golf, but I guess it does take weeks to recover.

Then our best player Kupcho falls off a golf cart and gets a concussion. Who is driving the damn cart? That is hard to do people, unless you are going way too fast or just don't understand rolling hills or gravity.

With a healthy and happy Kupcho, Brooks, Cappaliez, Eberhard and Hop-Ngo...that's a very good team. Too bad.

Time to re-group. Dailey deserves better.

Hey, Bzz dealt with injuries too. Why does Dailey get special treatment ?

Would have to figure this is effectively an 8 team tournament.

I don't think Louisville, Virginia Tech, Notre Dame, or Boston College have any realistic shot of winning it.
