2016 Basketball Coaching Carousel

Worse move - Dixon going to TCU or Oliver Purnell going to DePaul?

I'm not sure it's that bad. Big football school now and lots of resources. you'll always be second fiddle, but football schools like A&M, oklahoma and UT are picking up. Great recruiting base.

Depaul is a has-been job, like st johns, marquette and lake forest

Herb Sendek is on Santa Clara's campus today interviewing for their head job.

Ouch. So true.

ex-Wake assistant Russell Turner would be a great candidate for Stanford.

C'mon guys TCU isn't a better job than us. They don't have nearly the same amount of resources nor the same history of success as A&M, UT or OU.

Article in the FW paper today on Dixon. For one thing he has the biggest shot at TCU in the last 30 years, beating Texas on a buzzer beater. Don't underestimate having resources, who was Baylor in football or hoops 10 years ago.

Get paid a ton of money with a low bar for success? What's not to love about that. The article claimed Dixon was the 6th highest paid coach with $3M+.

Approximately $1.8 Billion endowment to our $1.11 Billion. 8894 undergrads to our 4800. Great football team & great baseball team. Private school in Fort Worth, Texas. US News & World Report academic rank #76 vs Wake ranks #27. Dixon's base was $1.4 at Pitt but overall was around $3.4 with incentives & bonuses and that will be matched at TCU per reports. He does not have to work with RW

As of March 2016 TCU is a much better job than Wake.

More money, a national brand, incredibly fertile recruiting area, and easier admission requirements. And an Athletic Dept that is committed to winning and not just naming buildings after themselves and their rich buddies.

I think y'all underestimate just how irrelevant Wake is outside of the Carolinas. With our only advantage (NBA alumni) becoming increasingly less impactful by the year.

Wake is now a bottom level P5/BCS/whatever job now. And only attracts recruits who are diamonds in the rough or aren't good enough to play at most other ACC schools. What kid wants to go play in a half empty (if they're lucky) arena at a school where the students don't care and the local fan base is dwindling. The recent player turnover rate is also ridiculous and demonstrates how poisoned the program is. That can't be attractive. Sure it's a fine degree but how many basketball recruits really care about that. Especially when there are comparable academic programs out there who don't possess Wake's long list of negatives.

Wake's only shot is hiring a charismatic up-and-coming coach that can sell recruits on his personality and his style of basketball. And hope he gets you to a Sweet 16 before he leaves for a better job. A coach that RW would never hire because he would have to cede too much control and his brashness would upset the blue hairs that fund this junket.

Wake basketball is dead.

Nice obituary.

Most Wake Forest fans don't even care about Wake Forest's athletic programs anymore. They have moved on to other more interesting and entertaining aspects of life. Ultimately, this is causing Wake Forest to lose out on the next generation of fans because the children of Wake Forest alumni will not grow up rooting for winning Wake Forest teams.

This is dumb. Jeff Goodman went on national TV yesterday saying while TX has a lot of good talent, none of it ever ends up at TCU. And he doesn't see how Jamie Dixon is going to flip the script when everyone in front of him has failed.

My son grew up a Wake fan, went to Appalachian and fairly quickly became a big APP football fan b/c of their success on the field. He left 4 years later having attended one APP basketball game (Davidson w/Steph Curry) and with zero interest in their basketball program but still a huge FB fan. For some crazy reason he has not given up on Wake basketball yet.
I'd guess the same thing has happened over the last 6-8 years or so with many of our students: they come to Wake with allegiances to other programs, and after 4 years they leave with those old loyalties intact and no emotional connection to their own school's athletics. God bless those kids who still show up for our BB and FB games.

I'm pretty sure that poster didn't mean Wake when they said "us".

My son grew up a Wake fan and went to UGA. Wake played UGA a couple of times when he was in school and he would always root for Wake in those games. He would say he didn't want UGA to mess up Wake's season. He is probably more into Wake BB now than I am.

Any school that doesn't have a fucking moron running the athletic department is a better job until the aforementioned fucking moron is fired.
