islam

I'm guessing sailor will blame Muslims for the plague, the Great Fire of London and the flu after WWI

this is a good post. Actually, a lot of the "stone age" version is fairly new. Islam in the late middle ages to early modern era, especially under the leadership of the Turkish caliphate, was relatively enlightened, cosmopolitan, and tolerant for its time.

A good point. In fact, there wouldn't have been a so-called renaissance in the west at all if it weren't for moorish scholars in Iberia that translated the neoplatonists, mathematics, philosophy, etc. in the twelfth century from Arabic into Latin.

Instead of prattling about what may, or may not, have been over 500 years ago, you would do better, yes, much better, to pay heed to this Muslim professor"

Strange that on the one hand the far-right can be immeasurably anti-intellectual and anti-academic, and then on the other cite a single academic source -- "who works in countries across europe" -- in every single paragraph of an article.

You gotta go where the truth takes you.

Good thinking ad hominem argument. As usual, its the best you got. Keep up the good work.

This is such a delicious post.

Ready to debate Mr. Khan's points yet, Sailor? Or maybe you can just find another Breitbart source attacking him as a person. Any idea what the name is for that kind of attack?

you attacked the person not his argument about modern Islam

you attacked the "far right" instead of the statement about Islam, where is this "far right" you talk about?

Ready to discuss Khan's writings. There's not much to say about his deceptive polemic at the DNC. He's an expert in Sharia law, which he considers from God and hence superior to any man made law, such as the US Constitution. He is not a constitutional expert. You read up on Kahn, and you'll see, he is probably one of the last people anyone would consult on a US constitutional issue. Why don't you read Khan's writings and the details of his career before you start posting foolishness.

1) I was attacking the credibility of the article.
2) Noting that the article offers no contextual information about the authority it cites in literally each and every paragraph of the article (15/15) other than the fact that he is "a highly regarded researcher and academic" is not an argument ad hominem. It would have been useful for the reader to know that the scholar is associated with a Catholic university in Hungary -- a fact that might suggest some bias on his part, which is why I suppose it was left out of the article. The guy might very well be a rock star in the field of Islamic studies. It would be helpful to know a little bit more about him.
3) My comment about the far-right is also not an argument ad hominem because the far-right is not a person.

The right generally slags off academics but very selectively cites the one or two of them that they can find to support their beliefs. Do you know this gentleman personally, sailor? Aren't you in Budapest?
