Wake Forest Football Preseason Thread

I am thinking of going to the Indiana game too. Curious if anyone has seen a football game there and what the atmosphere is like. Is it a good roadtrip destination?

If you decide to go, be sure to walk across the parking lot from Memorial Stadium to Assembly Hall during your trip and check out the five NCAA Basketball Championship trophies in the lobby as you enter the coliseum.

And in bkf's sitting room you'll find a cup with sweat from Bobby Knight's ball sack in it.

Thanks Bob. I remember thinking that Grobe must have gave a real ear bleeder of a half-time speech. The Deacs were a different team in the second half.

Most interesting items:

Scotty Washington earns the "OR" (meaning co-starter) with Cortez Lewis. Good for him. Really high ceiling player.

Alex Bachman held off Steven Claude and will start at the S-WR

Claude will be the kickoff returner

Mike Weaver will handle kickoffs

Demetrius Kemp held off Thomas Brown and will start at rover

A'Lique Terry is missing from the depth chart. I wonder if he is hurt because Clawson's mentioned him repeatedly as a key backup this season.

John Armstrong listed as the other KR, he'll be back with Claude but presumably won't take most of the kicks? He's not listed elsewhere, what other role will be have?

What happened to the kick off specialist guy that got hurt prior to last season I thought?

Wish we still had Zeek Rodney, if we did we'd probably have as good a depth up front on defense as I can remember.

I think Weaver just beat Centers out.

Sirk being out is huge. Our D struggles against elite QBs historically, does really well against bad and/or inexperienced ones.

Sirk's pastor had tweeted that it was God's will that Sirk have a huge year, so not sure what God was thinking here. Could have had a brainfart and given the injury to the wrong guy. Sucks for Sirk though. Hopefully, this won't make him rethink the whole God's will thing.

Maybe that pastor will learn that God doesn't care at all about Sirk having a big year, or about Duke football, or about any sporting event at all.

Can't remember his name but pretty sure he quit football for concussion/health reasons.

Good preview on ESPN's ACC Blog. I thought their assessment of our QB situation was fairly accurate:

Junior John Wolford is the starter, but sophomore Kendall Hinton is going to play. Clawson made that decision this week, and it seems to be in Wake’s best interest to play both. Both have their strengths, and because there probably was not a ton of separation between them it makes sense to get Hinton’s athleticism on the field. It doesn’t make sense hindering an offense just because one of the best players is the backup quarterback, and one who differs so greatly from the starter. How Clawson decides to use a two-quarterback system remains to be seen, whether there are packages for Hinton or if he’ll switch it up some drives or even get both on the field simultaneously. This all only works, of course, if both play consistently well, which neither was able to do a season ago. Both will be doomed if the Demon Deacons cannot get anything from their rushing attack and offensive line.
