Yet Mauk was known for plays like that in H.S. and at Cincinnati. Not much at Wake. Grobe and Lobo tried to turn him into an option/short passing ball security QB.

Yep. He was a good gunslinger at Cincy.

He and Anderson would have made a good combo if things had turned out differently for both.

Ben Mauk led us to 2 TD's at Clemson, yet was not in the game in the key 4th quarter stretches--Cory Randolph was in and again Cory was in for the OT after doing nothing the entire 2nd half. Go figure. Randolph--went 7-for-21 for 55 yards in the season opener at Clemson... carried 15 times for 32 yards against the Tigers.
Ben Mauk--Against Clemson University, on his first collegiate snap, he set the record for longest touchdown pass in Wake history, at 85 yards. made a splash on his first official collegiate snap as he hit Jason Anderson on an 85-yard bomb at Clemson... the play tied for the longest touchdown pass in school history... went 3-for-4 for 101 yards and a touchdown in his career debut at Clemson... did not play the following week at East Carolina..........completed 6-of-10 passes for 50 yards against North Carolina A&T
 
Didn't Randolph become the first player in WFU history to throw for 300 and rush for 100 vs ECU? No reason to take out the hot hand in that one. I miss Wake beating ECU every year. That is a trash talking crowd.

Bomb is a bit of a stretch. That was one of the ugliest throws that resulted in a TD I'd seen. Threw a wobbly rainbow.

Great game. I went with a Clemson friend of mine. We got screwed on several PI calls in late 4th quarter to send it to overtime. Real screw job.
