Wake Tennis 2017-2018

I would guess our top 6 will be Mansouri, Chrysochos, Lazarov, Seraphim, Uspensky, and Gadjiev. Kan and Hill will provide depth.

Rafi, I think you are spot on. Skan and Petros will play 1 and 2 in no order. Last year we started with Petros and quickly went to Skan. I think Alex Lazarov will play 3. The next three could really be in any order, but I'd say Gadjiev, Seraphim, and Dennis.

Today all 3 singles matches are at 10am EST.

Petros vs. Gage Brymer (#38, played 3 for UCLA last year) – tough match but should win
Christian vs. William Bushamuka (#15, plays 1 for Kentucky) – will be tough, Busha has a big forehand
Skander vs. Thomas Laurent (#105, qualifier, played 3 for Oregon last year) – should win in straights

Skander/Seraphim vs. Ronnie Schneider/Jack Murray at 2:30 - good chance to beat a couple of Tarheels

HUGE WINS!

Petros wins 6-3, 6-1 - Will play Jose Salazar of Arkansas next
Skander wins 6-4, 6-4 (was down 3-0 and 2 breaks in the 2nd) - will play the winner of DiFeo-Ram Harel next
Seraphim wins 6-4, 6-4 (He was down 4-2 and a point for 5-2 in 2nd) - will play #3 seed Chris Eubanks of GTech next.

Wake won all their singles matches today in straight sets. Petros cruised 6-3, 6-1. Mansouri was down 0-3 in the second and came back to win 6-4, 6-4. Seraphim was down a break in the second and also won 6-4, 6-4.

Mansouri/Serphim beat the UNC team, 10-4 in a third set tiebreak to advance to the final 8.

Wake is the only school in country with 3 players in the final 16. Ohio State, Texas, and Arkansas all have 2 players still alive.

Wake Tennis 2016-2017

In the round of 16 this morning Petros won in a third set tiebreak, Skander lost 5-7 in the third, and Seraphim lost to the 3 seed.

Petros just played the 1 seed and won 6-2, 6-4. Really big win for him.

Also, Noah Rubin won today to make the finals of a Challenger in CA.

Mansouri/Seraphim crushed Notre Dame 0,1 to make the semis. Wake is the only school with a singles player and doubles team in the semis.

Petros wins 5,1 to advance to the national championship match! He'll play Di Feo from Ohio state, the guy that beat Skander.

Doubles lost 10-8 in a third set tiebreak to the #2 seeds from Cal.

Great, great tourney for the Deacs. Petros is the first ever men's singles champ from Wake. He beat 6 top 50 opponents, including rolling over the #1 seed Torpegaard (who went 3 sets with Nadal last year), 6-2, 6-4. I was wondering how Petros would play this fall, because he didn't play much at all over the summer (many college players enroll in pro tournies, and Petros didn't). Obviously this championship answers that question. Petros can play at an incredibly high level, as he has killer ground strokes, especially his forehand.

Wake was the only school with 3 singles players in the round of 16, and the only school with a player/team in the semis in singles and doubles.

Was this Wake's first national championship since Michael Bingham in the 400 m Indoors in 2009?

Impossible to overstate how big this is. All-Americans is arguably the hardest title to win because the field is the biggest of all of the national championships. Very impressive by Petros

Yep, around 400 players are in this tournament.

Does this count, officially? Do we get Director's Cup points?

We don't get Director's Cup points for his win, but there isn't a singles or doubles tournament in college for which Director's Cup points are given. For example, when Noah Rubin made the finals in 2015 we didn't get points for that run. But it's an official national championship.
