Getting started early this year.

From the NCAA investigation to the subsequent resignation of his brother Oliver Antigua, to key players such as Jahmal McMurray deciding to transfer, everything that seemingly could have gone wrong for Antigua did over the past six months. Harlan finally decided enough was enough and made the change.

This is the next step of a clusterfuck for USF men's basketball. First, they hired Manhattan head coach and Pitino disciple Steve Masiello only to rescind the contract because he lied about having a bachelor's degree. Then they hired Calipari disciple Orlando Antigua, who looked like a solid second choice.

Noticed that something might be amiss there as they were blown-out in their first two conference games (60-49 to a bad ECU team; 70-56 in the conference home opener against Houston). USF is currently 249 in KP (hard to believe that USF was a Sweet 16 team in 2012).

USF is in absolutely awful shape. Hopefully they keep an interim long enough for Texas to fire Shaka and let Texas subsidize the entire AD.

USF isn't a real basketball program, hell they played AT Winston-Salem State (at the Gaines Center) during WSSU's transition year into D1. The Rams only played 4 home games that whole season.

Speaking of USF, noticed that former USF coach Stan Heath was on the BC bench on Tuesday. Just checked; Heath is an assistant at BC under Jim Christian. Christian was Heath's assistant at Kent State in 2001-2002 (their best player was future NFL HOF'r Antonio Gates), Christian succeeded Heath at Kent State, and they are now reunited at BC.

Heath has had a crazy career. He has taken three different schools to the NCAAs: Kent State (one year 30-6; NCAA Final 8 - think about that), Arkansas (twice) and USF (Sweet 16), but has been fired by both Arkansas and USF.

As a UNCW graduate and season ticket holder I'm gonna really miss Kevin Keatts when he's gone. That could be minimized were he to end up in Winston.

This year's team is a lot of fun to watch and Devante Cacok is having a ridiculous season field goal percentage wise (as pointed out on on Sportscenter last night):

There's a rumor that Wake assistant Steve Woodberry is the top choice to become the new head coach at Missouri State once the season ends. He was an assistant there for six years before joining Manning at Tulsa.

Take that with a grain of salt because they haven't fired their current coach yet. If this does happen it will be interesting to see who Manning gets as a replacement. There was a lot of chatter last year that Manning was pursuing Joe Dooley at Florida Gulf Coast to be an assistant here, so that's one potential replacement name.

If we have a vacancy, we need to find a defensive minded guy. Norm Roberts would be amazing, but doubt we could pull him. Maybe Brownell if he gets fired. Although either of those guys would want AHC.

Kim Anderson out at Mizzou. He came to Mizzou 3 years ago after winning the D2 championship at Central Missouri.

North Texas fired Tony Benford (NT hired Benford after being an assistant to Buzz Williams at Marquette).

Penn State announced that they are bring back Pat Chambers for next season (there were rumors that he might be canned).

Missouri State's board voted to retain their current coach for another year.

Seems like Romar being such a stud recruiter has kinda come out of nowhere, too.

All due to Isiah Thomas?

He was a great recruiter well before, too. Martell Webster, Spencer Hawes, Quincy Pondexter, Abdul Gaddy, etc. Romar has pulled in blue chip recruits since he started at Washington. That's even before you get into players like Brandon Roy, Isaiah Thomas, Justin Holiday, etc.

I'm guessing his NBA experience and ties help a lot. He's put a lot of players in the NBA, too.

ETA: Added some more, but Romar is one of the better recruiters in college ball.

Just a weird track to it. Per 247 Sports he was pulling in top 15 classes when Washington was really good in the mid '00s, then didn't pull in a top 20 class until 2015, now has had two top 10 classes in the last three years and the year he didn't have a top 10 class, he landed Fultz.

Recruiting like his job is on the line, if not coaching like it is

Don't be surprised to see Tom Crean take the Missouri job

Short of a run in the B1G tournament, and NCCA invite and a run in the ncaa tournament, Tom Crean is likely done at IU. He knows that and as soon as IU season ends, he will likely take a good look at the Mizzou job. There are reports that there are already preliminary talks going on behind the scenes. Mizzou is also apparently looking at Cal's Cuanzo Martin and Butler's Chris Holtmann.

Martin grew up in E. St. Louis and has coached at Missouri St. and would also be a candidate for the Illinois job if John Groce is let go.

Gott may coach his last game for the Pack today (they are 6 point dogs); flight tracking among the Pack faithful can begin in earnest.

It appears that State will be in the only ACC school with coaching turnover this year although Pitt has to be going through buyer's remorse with the Stallings hire. Brownell is coming back, but this season has been a disappointment in Tiger town; they lose Blossomgame and another bottom half finish could end Brownell's tenure. Finally, at some point, Roy (66), K (70), Boeheim (72) and Pitino (64) will either keel over or become too decrepit to continue.

I'm sure those four old coaches have every reason for continuing to coach, but FFS, do you really need the stress ?
