Bleacher Report and Rivals reporting this. Looks like a great hire to me.

For those who judge by how the old team's fans feel about the move, all of the Minnesota people I've seen on Twitter love the guy.

Interesting going from Big 10 large school to small ACC for same position.

I think that speaks highly of Clawson.

I would imagine this is the best resume of a coordinator we have hired in some time. I think Calhoun ended up being a great coordinator, but my recollection was he was at Ohio with Grobe. I can't think of anybody else we brought in directly from a coordinator position at another P5 school going back to Caldwell.

Really like this hire! Does that mean the staff has been finalized? Will Sawvel coach linebackers?

Since his arrival at Minnesota in 2011, Sawvel has regularly put together some of the best passing defenses in the Big Ten and the country. He has developed three NFL draft picks in that time with Cedric Thompson and Brock Vereen each joining Murray as draft picks out of the Gophers secondary. Only five college football teams have produced NFL draft picks out of the secondary in each of the past three years.

Sawvel is also respected as a strong recruiter and evaluator as part of a staff known for its ability to find diamonds in the rough.

Eric Murray WI 2* to 5th round pick http://247sports.com/Player/Eric-Murray-14564
Cedric Thompson CA 2* to 5th round pick http://247sports.com/Player/Cedric-Thompson-10167
Brock Vereen CA 3* to 4th round pick http://247sports.com/Player/Brock-Vereen-2953

Yes please. That's three draft picks he coached who are lower rated than most of our incoming class. Vereen is Shane Vereen's little brother.

Didn't Grobe hire Syracuse's DC to be just a position coach a few years after the Orange Bowl year? Steve Russ I believe it was. Of course, I think he had worked with Grobe at Ohio and/or Air Force several years before, so there was some familiarity between the two.

Can hardly wait for the official announcement. Hope Hatch is already on board

He made $550K last season in his first year as a DC.

As an experienced DC, probably the same or more I guess.
