Sources are saying State will fire Gott at end of year.

Sometimes it is best to be a king where you are rather than just the next coach to get fired at some big school. Ask Shaka now 10-15 at Texas

Will depend upon how much Archie and his wife like Dayton. If Archie wants to stay, he will use the State interest to bump up his Dayton salary. If he feels like he has hit the ceiling at Dayton (coaching in the A 10 has to suck), Miller can move onto a much higher profile job at State (rather coaching against Duquesne, St. Bonnie and Fordham; he could be coaching against UNC, Duke and L'ville). Even if Miller crashed and burned at State, he will make life-changing money and could get another Dayton type of job if he wanted it.

The problem for State would be if tOSU (don't think Matta is safe) or another similarly high profile job came knocking before State locks up Miller.

BTW, I don't think Roy is sticking around Chapel Hill much longer. He is aging rapidly. Is there already a succession plan in CH?

In regards to Matta, apparently he is having very bad back problems right now.

Heard that he would either a) step down due to the health issues or b) would take a temporary leave of absence.

otherwise know as The Krzyzewski

This might be a good time for State to attract a strong coach. Both Roy and The Ferret are closer to the end of their careers than the beginning - and the NCAA might slap UNC's wrists by 2021 or so. Manning is not yet firmly entrenched at Wake. Of course, given that Yow is in charge, State will probably find a way to screw this one up.

It's sad to say, but Ohio State (football school) is a better job than N.C. State head basketball coach.

There are few things more entertaining in sports than an N.C. State coaching search.

If the timing is right, good coaches can swing some great momentum into something special with all the HOF coaches in the ACC on their way out the door. Leonard Hamilton and Jim Larranega aren't exactly Spring chickens either. The Techs and UVA might be in really good shape for the future.

I have no idea how GT has done so well this year. What I saw out of Pastner at Memphis is that he sucked.

Who are good coaches these days? Shaka was the end all but is struggling at Texas. Does their board have a long thread as to whether he can coach? Tom Creme is on the hot seat at IU and he was thougjt of as ptetty good. Is Steve Alford suddenly a good coach because UCLA is winning? If Wake makes the dance, does this change how good of a coach Manning has become. You've got a lot of big time programs where coaches are nearing the end - Duke, UNC, Louisville, Michigan State, Syracuse to name a few. Have to figure Cal will eventually be found out to running afoul of NCAA rules. How do these schools avoid the Matt Dougherty type of hire to replace their legendary coaches?

I heard just this weekend from a big alum that the word was that he wasn't going to be fired because Yow didn't want to go through another embarrassing coaching search. Apparently they got "no" from 22 candidates last time, or something pathetic like that. This rumor sounds more like the alumni putting pressure on Yow and wishful thinking as far as Archie goes. He might (and should) get fired, history says not Archie. They'll probably be forced to do what we did, go after someone a "tier" lower.

Bill Self is 54. Jay Wright is 55. Cal is 58. Mark Few is 54. I don't see those guys going anywhere anytime soon, nor do I see their programs fading.

Sources say that Gott is out at the end of the year and Yow will hire Bzz because State fans were so impressed when he was our head coach. To a man, they all thought Bzz deserved a longer tenure as he was turning the program around. Much the same way as Wake fans think that Gott should stay at NCSU for similar reasons. If anybody asks Jay Bilas, I'm sure he will be in Gott's court lobbying for him to stay.
