Over the last several years we have lost a lot of basketball games because we just didn't have the players to compete. This year we are losing games to teams we should be able to beat. We have talent on this team, but we do not have the will to win. We have lost several games with late in the game collapses. Last night we lost a game to a team we should have beat because we were just lazy for most of the game. We gave up over 90 points to a team that has won two ACC games if you take out two victories over the Deacs. We were lazy with the ball, did not hustle on defense and just generally did not show up until late in the second half. We wasted a good night by JC and BC and probably ended any hopes of making the dance, It was not because we did not have the talent to win, it was because we just did not show up to play. Either the coaches need to revise their plans or the team needs to grow up and come to play every night for a full 40 minutes. Play through bad officials and missed shots. Grow up and play up to your potential!

Time for you to leave town so we can sign some new recruits !

Let's take up a collection to send Bud on an around the world cruise so we can sign everybody !

Virtually no teams go through a season without a having a game like last night. It's just the way it is.

Are you talking about NC State?

I've never gotten the "play through bad officials" mantra. Yeah it is possible to ignore one or two bad calls, but how the fuck do you "play through" a ref repeatedly calling travels that aren't travels and thus giving the ball to the other team, or calling bogus fouls and putting the other team in the 1 and 1 with like 10 minutes to go in the half? Those directly translate to points for the opposition which impact the outcome between two close teams. It's not like the other team isn't trying to win as well.

I've been extremely critical of our team over the past few years for many different reasons, but last night was not one of them. We are not far superior in talent to Clemson, we are both average teams with one possible NBA player. We played well enough to win but got dicked by Valentine on the day named after him. When playing an equivalent team on the road, that is pretty tough to overcome.

What makes you say "we have talent"? Because we have some guys that are streaky offensive players? Do you think we have a lot of defensive talent? We have 8 core players. 5 of those have significant weaknesses to their game, especially on the defensive side, mostly due to size/athleticism issues.

Have to agree with the Karl here. Besides the Nova game, last night was the only game that we've been blown out this year. Out of our 11 losses, we've had halftime leads in 8(!!) of them. The 3 games we didnt: Nova who had one of their best shooting performances of their season, UNC where we cut the lead to 1 late in the game, and last night. Our issue has been second half defense and not being able to finish the games. Given the difficulty of our schedule, it's actually amazing that we've been so consistent all year and havent had any dud performances. Probably why our kenpom is so high. The timing of last night's game sucks, but it was bound to happen - especially after blowing that game to Clemson on our home court.

Halftime Margins in our 11 Losses
@ NW +1
Nova -10
@X +1
@ FSU +1
Clem +5
@UVA +1
UNC -15
@ CUSE +3
Duke +10
@ND +5
@ CLEM -14

^Nova and UNC are good to great teams. Clemson is not. There's just no excuse for last night's performance.

There's no excuse for Steph Curry to go 1-11, but he did.

There's no reason for the 42-13 Spurs to lose to the 13-27 Suns in San Antonio.

It's called sports. Bad games happen.

This team has some definite limitations that aren't easily overcome. We have a gaping hole at the small forward position that has been consistently exploited--Blossomgame last night, Colson at Notre Dame, Kennard in the Duke game, Justin Jackson from UNC. Teams that have a player capable of exploiting that weakness have punished us, both through the scoring of that player or by kick outs to guards that get open looks because we're a little shorter and a little slower at those positions defensively as well. Throw in foul trouble for Collins, and it is a bad mix.

The way that we've overcome that is when we've limited turnovers offensively and shot the ball well. We did neither last night, and this was the predictable result.

The good news is that we've got help coming at the 3. The bad news is that it doesn't arrive until next season.

We have more than enough talent to defeat Clemson; but we have to play hard from the beginning. Our play in the first half was lethargic on both ends of the court and that lost the game. We were not focused, for some inexplicable reason.

That said, the 2nd half performances by Crawford and Collins were the best of the season, IMO. When Crawford plays as he did in the 2nd half, I'm not sure there is a better guard in the conference. But that is the first time that I have seen that level of play from him. Even so, other guys must step up. Dinos, Woods, Arians, Wilbekin and Chill were all somewhere else for most of the game.

Our talent level is not on par with several teams in the conference, but there is enough we have been in virtually every conference game we have played. Our primary problems have been, 1st lack of effort on defense and 2nd lack of smarts (we have made a lot of dumb plays that have cost us games). Hopefully coaching and maturing will correct most of this, along with improved talent next season...it's always "next season" ugh.

I agree. Problem is we have talent, but we don't have the length (the right type of talent/athletes) to play really good defense at every position.

So, the actual players, some of them, are over-matched on some nights. See: Arians line last night.

I mean I was at the ER and got home and saw 5 minutes and it looked like CU just spread the floor, move the ball, find the mis-match, dribble drive, made shot in the lane or foul on the Deacs, free throws for CU (easy points). I could be wrong - did not see the whole game.

*We desperately NEEDED McClinton and Crab to pan out as excellent 2G and wing defenders...instead...*

Chaundee looks exactly like what we need and we could use 1-2 more guys like him.
