Louisville verdict

Wow.
A real penalty.

After this, there's no way the NCAA can let UNC off without major penalties

This at least shows the NCAA is willing to hit them where it counts, and in this case it hit UL over some pretty stupid shit, frankly. UNC should be nervous.

Not even an hour after the NCAA announced its decision, Louisville revealed that it will appeal the sanctions. In a subsequent news conference, Pitino told reporters in Louisville that the Cardinals’ punishment is “unjust, unfair, over-the-top severe” and that he has “lost a lot of faith in the NCAA with what they just did.”

Rick, wait until you have to take down a banner and UNC will not.

I pray UNC sues the NCAA. Discovery, subpoenas, under oath. They think they can take down the NCAA. Go ahead. UNC has such huberis they think an Organization that takes in billions cant afford to go toe to toe with their attorneys. Laughable.

The major disagreement between Louisville and the NCAA is over what should matter more: the lurid nature of the impermissible benefits provided to recruits or the monetary value. Louisville contended that the sanctions should not be that harsh since McGee spent only $5,400 on strippers and escorts over a four-year period, but the NCAA appears to have taken the shock value of the allegations into consideration.

lol

Ah the "we barely paid for these hos" defense.

Pitino taken down by exes and hos.

Of course this is the defense comes from the "None of the special plays were run during the course of the game" crew.

I think the NCAA took away their championship banner so that this could be used as a bargaining chip to settle the whole mess out of court. The NCAA has a history of losing in court so they would give up on the championship if they can get some other sanctions to stick by consent.

Didn't they take away USC's natty in football?

that would be a precedent for basketball

Anyone want to venture a guess as to what financial impact (if any) this has on Wake and our fellow ACC schools? Are Louisville's multi-year NCAA credits in jeopardy (thereby reducing the ACC distributions over the next few years)?

They weren't ho's because they didn't get paid, they just took 1 (or 2, 3, or 4) for the good of the team. Reportedly the players did tip them though, for going " above the call of booty"

The NCAA has their name attached to the tourney that gave UL their banner. They have a little more leeway for sanctions. Them trying to take away a BCS title or something is not really in their purview. They can order forfeiture of the games, but can't touch the crystal ball I don't think. But they can for a title they sponsor.

Louisville is Louisville and Carolina is Carolina. As John Thompson once said on the radiio, Southern Cal cheats and the NCAA puts Maryland Eastern Shore on probation as punishment. The NCAA is all about making money; fairness is secondary. The Dance would miss Louisville a little bit; UNC would be missed at lot.

Thank god they weren't in the ACC yet and this doesn't give [Redacted] any more "wins".
