This is the article about the Melo trade. Whether it's a 100% accurate we'll never know. But ESPN's Michael Eves also a former Clips announcer was quoted on it in the article.

Wenthorst backed up the fifth year option in the article on Sportsnation when he said "CP would have sucked up the Austin/Doc thing and stayed if they offered the 5th yr.

local LA radio really going with this Doc not only turning down a Melo Trade involving Austin but not even responding to the Knicks in time
 
that melo trade rumor is perfect because it involves phil offering a stupid trade for the knicks and doc out-stupiding him to keep his son around. it's basically fan fiction except it might be true.

also fwiw in the zach lowe article today he was skeptical that ultimately the clippers would balk at giving the full max but it didn't seem like he had sources. he was just saying that would be a really dumb reason to lose CP now.

and the Clips were SO SO bad at SF. it was mbah a moute and 40 year old paul pierce. lmfao this rumor can't be true.

That doesn't meet Indiana's goal of nabbing a top-10 pick or an equivalent talent. The Celtics will be reluctant to bid any higher given the risk of George bolting to the Lakers in a year.
