Fantrax/CDM Fantasy Sports

I now have 8 pitchers with 2 starts next week. Probably will go with just 6. Some of the pitchers who are struggling have 2 bad starts.

Realmuto is terrible. He only has 11 total bases all year. His BA is .188, his OBP is .204 and his SLP is .229. And he isn't cheap enough to be that awful. At 1300K, Realmuto costs 100K more than Trevor Story, for example.

Well, as we finish up 3 weeks of the season, all 4 of my teams are in the best league position they have been in so far this year: 2nd, 5th & 2nd in Bronze and 8th in Silver (30 teams in Silver leagues, paying top 7 spots). Not like 2014, when my teams ended April in the top 2 in their leagues & top 5 overall...but a far cry better than last year, when I ended the month between 16th & 19th in my leagues.

I guess this is the lineup I will go with next week unless someone gets hurt today. Don't like having to keep Realmuto, but I couldn't find anyone I really liked whom I thought was worth wasting a purchase on right now. Other than Posey, there really aren't any catchers who can be counted on to consistently put up good numbers. It's probably better to get catchers other than Posey from the AL, where you at least have the DH to get them some extra at bats on days off from catching. Realmuto does have 7 games next week, so maybe he will improve from terrible to just bad. LOL. As I mentioned earlier, so far this year he has a grand total of 7 singles & 2 doubles. That's it....for the entire year.

Franco has been hot lately, but he has a terrible schedule next week: 3 games at Washington, then 3 against Cleveland's 3 best pitchers. Both Abreu & Upton have very attractive 7-game schedules, but I don't feel comfortable using them. I even put in Rizzo with 6 games (at home) over Abreu's 7 games....which are on the road, but in great hitters' parks (Toronto & Baltimore). Don't even know why I have Upton, if I can't play him in a week with 4 games at home vs Oakland & 3 at Minnesota.

Really wishing I had picked Machado instead of Bryant. That's hurting me a little so far. 77 of the top 100 in Bronze have Machado and only 46 of the top 100 have Bryant. And so far, Machado's numbers are killing Bryant's. Bryant has 6 games at home next week & I would have liked to get him in my lineup, but didn't see any way to sit Donaldson or Arenado, and my DH spots were filled with Trumbo & Sano (also 6 games at home, and I didn't have the money to replace him with Bryant, anyway).

ETA: And now Carrasco gets hurt today covering 1st base in the 3rd inning....leaving with a 3-0 lead. Rodon only lasts one-third of an inning in his first start this week...and now this. It's hard to completely lose two of your starts in a week and keep up.

Back to the drawing board. They moved Scherzer's start up to Tuesday....which means he will get two starts next week. Kershaw & Sale also have two starts next week. It's going to take some maneuvering to get all 3 of those high-priced SPs in the lineup....but you have to do it. Gotta sit some hitters somewhere, I'm afraid. Syndergaard & Archer also have 2 starts next week. Archer's starts are at home...and it's time for him to turn things around, if he's going to do it.

LOLOLOL. Realmuto is 4 for 4 today with a HR, double & two singles. 8 total bases today after only having 11 in Miami's first 16 games combined.

Guess he just needed a little verbal harassment.

dropped Wainwright for Kershaw. Total roster is 42.9m which is pretty tough to manage. Have we seen the best of Trevor Story? Is he worth picking up? I'm not sure what the whole Jose Reyes situation is but I am pretty sure he will be back this year. Wonder if he will take Story's spot

nightmare pitching season continues for me. McGee blows a 3 run lead in the 9th on a wild pitch/ Hopeful I can get a cheap win from him...

The answer to that question is probably "yes". He was never as good as he played the first week of the year. However, I think he will probably keep his job. Don't know how the Reyes story will play out...but I imagine that Colorado wishes they had never signed him. Don't know why clubs just keep doing stupid things like that....overpaying players who are past their prime and full of one kind of risk or another. (Reyes has been a constant injury risk for a long time, even without this other stuff. And his numbers have already been tailing off in recent years.) If Story can keep his regular job...playing in Colorado...and as cheap as he is....he is probably worth having. There are better options for starters I think...if you have the money in the budget....like Correa, Bogaerts, Lindor & Seager, to name a few. If you have 3 of those 4, I don't know that I would use a purchase to get Story right now. That's my opinion on the matter, anyway.

Ace was high on Wainwright from the beginning of ST. I never did see it, myself. I think Wainwright is another guy whose best days are behind him.

Decision time:

Harper & Franco or Upton & Bryant?

If I have Kershaw, Scherzer and Sale, either Harper or Bryant has to sit. Right now, it's Bryant.

I am glad that I have 8 two start pitchers next week. Archer is the odd man out even with 2 home starts. Both those teams have big bats and have beat him up already this year. Since so many teams have him I am hoping for some reverse points. Even if he improves I don't think he comes out of this week unscathed.

I don't think I have much choice but to play him. It's either 2 home starts for Archer or 1 home start for Lester. And with the points league scoring system, I need innings & strikeouts.

The answer to that question is probably "yes". He was never as good as he played the first week of the year. However, I think he will probably keep his job. I was high on Wainwright, and still think he could have a good year. I dropped him from my opening day roster since there is too many good pitchers in his price range to take a chance on him. (can always pick him up) I didn't take the time to explain why I was high on him. First of all, a players age, and arm age are 2 different things. Wainwright may be 34 years old, but he was out for TJ for a year. Last year he was out for an ankle injury coming off a very fine year. He came up to the big leagues as a relief pitcher, so his arm is not 34 years old. imo

Don't know about the rookie leagues, but, actually, not many teams have Archer in their lineup this week in the bronze leagues. Only 4 of the top 50 and 6 of the top 100. Maybe a lot of teams were thinking the same way you were...and there are a lot of 2-start options this week.

I have Kershaw, Scherzer and Sale going tonight. Hoping for some big numbers from those three guys!

ETA: I lost some ground Sunday, but gained a little back last night. My teams are now 4-7-3-8. If all three of those SPs have big games tonight, though, I think my 1st & 3rd teams could move as high as 2nd & 1st.

At least all of them are in pretty solid shape, unlike last year when I basically flopped right out of the gate and never recovered for the rest of the year.

Scherzer
I was going to use another purchase this week for an OF. (probably CarGo) When Scherzer was moved up the money was not available. Probably a good thing since is so early. I didn't realize he played all year last year and had 40 home runs.

I did pick up CarGo this week. (That's what I meant in an earlier post that I said that people may have written him off too quickly because of his bad injury-prone year in 2014.)

And speaking of Scherzer, I've been watching that game on MASN....he is really a frustrating pitcher to watch. He is slow as hell for one thing. Takes forever to throw the ball, steps off the mound a lot...and has been constantly behind hitters by either trying to get them to hit bad pitches or he just has lousy control. Had about 90 pitches thru 4 innings...and the Nats are trailing the Phillies at home. And they have made a couple of nice DPs behind him or he would be further behind than he is. I'll be lucky if Schilling can get a win out of this one...which I thought was almost a sure thing.

I have both pitchers in that game! really getting beat up, again. lol

In one of my leagues I am 24th in at bats. No way you can win with that stat. Surprising that I am in the middle of the pack in that league. The other 2 teams that are down there with me are 24th and 25th in the league. This seems to happen every year, and I have never fixed the problem.

Reached a season high-water mark last night for all four teams: 2-5-1 & 37/675 overall in bronze and 5th in silver. That would be a $545 payout on a $260 investment. Hope to continue the upward direction. So far, this has certainly been better than last year's nightmare season.
