Fantrax/CDM Fantasy Sports

But he is going to pitch the first game of the year, so he needs to be in the first lineup if you own him.

Looks like Harrison is going to pitch the first game of the year, but that still should set Darvish up for two starts on tues/sun, right? Complicates matters some.....looks like I'll have a couple guys going twice that will have to be on the bench the first week...

No. Only Oakland & Seattle play 7 games the first full week + opening day. Everyone else plays 6 games. Since Texas & Houston play a day early on Sunday, they have an extra day off the next week. Harrison will come back to pitch the following Sunday.

Wouldn't they want to roll Harrison back out on Sat on 6 days rest, and Darvish on Sun with 5 days rest? I guess I could be remembering wrong, but I thought for top of the rotation starters, the plan is to get them out as often as possible?

Some teams carry 5 closers, but most do not. The situation is different this year, though, because Chapman will continue to be listed as a starter, even though he is closing. This means that you could actually have 5 closers in your lineup at the same time.....whereas the 5th closer would just be taking up one of your 12 taxi squad spots if all 5 were listed as RPs. Personally, I still don't plan to do it. If one of my closers loses his job I will just use one of my 15 purchases to replace him. If he is just going on the 15-day DL, I would have to choose between replacing him or just going with 3 closers for a couple of weeks. There will be isolated weeks when you might want to go with 7 SPs & 3 closers, anyway. I have Chapman, but I'm only going to have 3 other closers, and just place Chapman in that last "swing pitcher" spot...using him just like he was listed as a closer. There will be several teams (I think ace may be one of them, don't know for sure) who will carry 4 closers plus Chapman this year, though.

Also, for anyone who has Darvish...he is not going to start opening day. That means he will only get 1 start (at home vs the Angels) in the 1st full week scoring period.

I don't understand why Chapman has to be listed as a starting pitcher. The season hasn't started and he is now the closer. Same goes for these guys who had great springs and now have a everyday job. Why do they have to have a 700k price tag. I play it day by day, why can't Fantrax? Hell, that's their job!

At 440K, I think I am going to have to find a spot on my roster for this guy:

Julio Teheran springing forward: by Bill Passonno | Fantasy Writer
Braves starting pitcher Julio Teheran continued his torrid spring run, firing six hitless innings during Atlanta's 3-2 win over Houston in a Grapefruit League contest Saturday. Teheran, who has secured the fifth spot in the team's rotation, struck out 10 batters and walked three while lowering his 1.04 ERA over six starts. The right-hander also hurled five hitless innings against the Cardinals on March 12.

Teheran, 22, was hailed as the fifth-best overall prospect by Baseball America last spring before faltering with his command. This spring, he has redefined his arsenal and leads the majors with 35 strikeouts over 26 innings while holding opponents to a lowly .082 batting average.

"He's showing four quality major-league pitches," Braves manager Fredi Gonzalez said. "A couple years ago, it was one, and not even one, because he couldn't control it."

Yeah, he's looking really good.....especially at 440.....I don't remember this many tough decisions last year.

I'm not really concerned about those 5 leagues filling up. That would be 125 total teams. Last year, they closed Rookie League registrations 2 or 3 days before opening day, after they filled those 5 leagues. I would guess that they are around 80% filled now....so anyone who thinks he might like to try the salary cap game (on the cheap) probably shouldn't wait too much longer to register.

The board now has your "Punch n Judy" team in league #5, Ace's "River Pirates" in league #4, my "Bob Knight Fan" in league #3 & DDeac08's "Orioles Magic" in league #2.

My Gold league just has 12 teams. Good chance some of us will be in the same league. Not a big deal in the rookie league, but hoped it wouldn't happen in the gold.

I probably shouldn't be talking basketball in this thread. I just bookmarked this thread since I haven't any interest in the board.

Sorry to see STL go down, Bud. I was hoping they could maybe take Louisville out for my Hoosiers. Indiana has a good team, and some really good players. They really lack toughness which is why they struggle against teams like Whisky/Butler.

Getting closer....Gonna have to shed an OF, most likely for a reserve 2B, but I really don't want to. I don't like any of the 2B for their price tags.....I kind of want to wait a couple weeks and see if anyone steps up, but as Ace says, that's planning a purchase, which isn't ideal.

ETA - Fielder's price tag may eventually chase him off my team, considering all the Craigs and Freemans for ~1100, but he's just so damn rock solid, has such a good lineup, and has a year in the AL under his belt...

I'm pulling for Indiana over Ohio State in the Championship Game. (In a $100 pool, 1st place pays $3,000; 2nd place pays $500.) Need the Hoosiers to win....but I also need OSU to make it to the CG. (You don't have to worry about Wisconsin or Butler anymore.) Hoping that Izzo can take care of Duke & Louisville for ya....if Creighton doesn't take Duke out tonight. I still think that Duke isn't that good. They just have a great coach.

ETA: Saint Louis had a great run. Rick Majerus would have been proud.

Majerus death was so tragic. He once joked he scheduled a game in Wisconsin just for the bratwurst. I hate to see a guy go out like that...

He's certainly got potential, and he's playing on a much-improved team....but he's not really all that cheap at 950K. A bigger problem for me is who would I drop to pick him up (if I wanted him)? At that price, he costs almost as much as Darvish (1000K).

They are beginning to fill the Gold leagues now. Added three teams to league #4 this afternoon. 22 teams in it now. (Still have 20 in my rookie league.)

Johnson, Lester, and even Beckett (until his last start) have had good springs.....Johnson and Lester cost a little more than Beckett. I was thinking about rolling with Beckett, but I will probably switch him out for Samardzja....

I am getting close myself. The one player i need to replace is Motte. Haven't decided if it will be a closer, starter, or catcher. I am leaning toward a 3rd catcher.

I have had Bruce for the last 3 years. Don't have him this year so he will probably go crazy. He has always put up good numbers other than BA....which was great in triple A. Thing about Bruce is he needs to be left in your lineup. He is such a streak hitter that goes hot and cold for weeks at a time.

Hate streak hitters....

I've been thinking the same thing about Stanton. I read somewhere that lineup protection is vastly overrated by fans, but I don't see how that can be true. Why give Stanton a decent pitch to hit, when you can pitch to Rob Brantly or Josh Ruggiano instead? Still some say 40 is a given....I dunno

Schedule
I think I am set on my roster for the Rookie League. I am Tan The Man in League 1.

OK, I've found the missing piece to my puzzle: Erick Aybar. He is cheap (790K) and has already been a consistent producer (average of .283 & 22 steals over his four full seasons). Now, he is going to be batting 2nd in that Angels lineup....after Trout and in front of Pujols & Hamilton! How many runs do you think he will score in that situation? And with Trout in front of him, he's going to have some great RBI chances as well.

I wish he was a second baseman.

This is my first year playing fantasy baseball. I've heard don't pay for saves, so I waited until pretty much the last 4 rounds to take my relievers. Do you all have any suggestions for some nice relief options in a standard 5x5 roto league who may have gone undrafted?

BKF, the first thing about your roster that jumps out at me is Bruce and Zimmerman. I have had both for several years, and you didn't like either. We even argued over their worth. I'm not going with either this year, and you have them both. lol

I see where Graig is now listed at batting 4th. That is better than 2nd, but not as good as 3rd in my opinion. So many hard decisions this year.
