2013 US Open at Merion

Carey Williams, DBACK for the Eagles missed an OTA for a family function, and he is getting ROASTED for it.

I say it mildly 'tongue n cheek' as there are some parts surrounding that made it a bigger deal...however, it was big enough deal simply going, before he opened his mouth and made it worse.

Team sport vs. individual sport. No pro-am at a major, so Phil wouldn't tick off any sponsors.

Think of the uproar Vince Carter caused when he attended his own college graduation during the playoffs. Like Phil, he arrived back at the venue a couple of hours before the event started.

Not too different than taking time off from work when you are the boss vs. being an employee.

Anyone else catch Mike Davis' nonsense about the fairway height being raised from 1/4" to 1/2" for "sustainability of the game" reasons?

Bullshit. You're trying to make a short course play longer by doing everything you can to eliminate roll in the fairways. As if the rain didn't do enough of that...

Don't insult our intelligence.

Players are zipping wedge shots back like this is the Bob Hope Desert Classic. Not good.

Haas is vomiting all over himself--hate to think how he'll do on the back nine.

Hunter Mahan has a 5 handicap short game.

How did Garcia make an 8 on 15? Hit it OB a couple times?

Is that Steve Jones in the back next to Furyk in the black shirt? He sure disappeared after winning.

That is cool Mickelson did that. Wish he would have had an afternoon tee time.

Phil must have a great publicist. Every time he does something cool like this or give a fan that he hit with a ball a $100 bill and a signed golf glove, you definitely hear about it. I went to the same school 1st-12th so an 8th grade graduation seems pointless to me, but I believe his daughter was speaking at the event, so kudos to Phil for sacrificing practice time at a major he covets for his family.

I've never seen greens at Merion this slow.

No disrespect meant here, but zero chance they were ever even this fast when you were younger and bouncing around that place.

Mr fucking expert at life wrong again. Yeah, I know it rained, but your matter of fact analysis of this tournament weeks ago based on you growing up in the same city was comical. Go back to knowing horseshit.

Good article on the 1-iron: http://sports.yahoo.com/news/hogans-1-iron-extinct-major-071105003--golf.html

This is no lie, when I was younger, 1 iron was probably the best club in my bag. At least off the tee, I hardly remember ever hitting a bad tee shot with a one iron. I had a Ping Eye 2 1-iron and I had a Hogan Edge Forged 1-iron and I loved them both. What's crazy is that at 42 I'm a much better player then I was 20+ years ago, but I picked up a Ping Eye 2 1-iron for cheap a couple of years ago thinking about how good I used to hit it and now I can't hit it worth a darn.

Curtis and another reporter have said the greens are "suprisingly" slow.

The second halves of each 9 are killing these guys, not surprisingly. The course has held up well.

Bill made a few birdies before the tough finish - hopefully he can survive at +5 and shoot a red number tomorrow.

Last year, my HS friend told me the greens were "diabolical" for the members. He is part of at least four generations of his family at Merion. I didn't know his great grandfather, but I wouldn't be surprised if he was a member too.

I can't watch now; but I take your word for it that the greens are extremely slow by Open standards. Still there are some surprisingly high scores at this point, especially Snedeker at +5 and Bradley at +6.
