Official Hoops Coaching Search Thread - Welcome Danny Manning!!!

The counter might be, why don't VCU and Shaka announce that he is staying. I know there might be other reasons, but it's more likely they would get that out there sooner rather than later if he is definitely staying at VCU.

Very possibly Smart and VCU have taken the Skip Prosser-like stance and won't comment on further job offers anymore. To continually say, as Smart would be required to do, that he's staying after every flurry of offers becomes counterproductive. Likewise, Wake probably doesn't want news of an offer and rejection to get out, so everyone is staying mum. We probably hear no more about this alleged offer. No one will say yay or nay, everyone will just move on.

Damn this thread is hard to keep up with. Ignore if you've read it but here is Goodman's insider piece:

Wake Forest athletic director Ron Wellman failed miserably with his last hire -- good friend Jeff [Redacted]. He needs to not only win games, but also win the news conference.

The Demon Deacons are also making a play for Smart -- and why not? While Wake won't offer the financial package of Marquette, it can offer the fact it plays in the best league in the country and it's also had success under Skip Prosser and Dino Gaudio.

But this search is close to the vest. That's how Wellman operates. There's been contact, per sources, with Xavier's Chris Mack, but there have been other names floated around -- Tulsa's Danny Manning and even Texas Tech's Tubby Smith.

Tubby Smith might have worked 4 years ago (better than Bz for sure) but that would be a mega disappointment this time around.

How can Marquette have deeper pockets than wake? I think everyone on campus realizes (justified or not) that hoops coach is one of the most critical roles for the university. Pony up the$$ - it's a good investment and will be repaid in spades...

The main media sources might not realize/know it, but Wake is going to throw out big time money for the right candidates this time. Money won't be the reason that Shaka doesn't come here if that ends up being the case.

cue bigdoublezero "we can't expect journalists to be good anymore bc you want it now, not right, sheeple"

Yeah, bring me the good old days when we could all sit around pressing F5 waiting for bloggers to throw us scraps regarding a coaching search and candybars only cost a nickel. You know, back when all the journalists were GOOD.

Oh yes. How long do you think it would take ONCE YOU GET A CONCRETE OFFER? There would've been talks long before you received the offer. SS has had days to consider whether he'd take the job. Once the offer is made, two full business days is more than enough time. If you don't think that, you're just trying to hang on to a forlorn hope.

Im at about 42%. I think the longer he considers the better. I also think that the assumption that Wellman would only give his top target 24 hours is silly.

Dude turned down UCLA and he is going to decide on WFU in 36 hours?

Also lets not forget Ms. Feminist 'Author' Wifey. She made some dismissive comment the other day surprised that one of her tweets was interpreted as being about his job, as if it doesnt make her ends meet like a mothafucka. She gonna take some convincing.

Nothing is what it seems with regards to RW and his most recent interview. If you want to know the real pay attention this weekend.

If he got the offer Tuesday isn't it feasible that he and his lawyer countered Wednesday or today and that the negotiation is simply in process. I can't imagine our offer was take it or leave it. I refuse to give up hope.

So, what you are saying is, "Maybe Shaka has done everything Ron expected of him." The pessimism creeping into the discussion is unbecoming. It could already be a done deal, or it could be dead in the water, or it could be anywhere in between. In any case, RW is bound to be pursuing Plans B and C while awaiting the outcome of Plan A. Never, never, never, never, never, never give up.

I ain't giving up baby! I was trying to put positive spin on it! He's obfuscating to give Shaka time. Total AD speak and applying some pressure at the same time (we are please with the progress means we have other candidates we like).

Now pass the duchie on the left hand side.
