What happened to the $57.6 million he made during his career?

I'm starting to think Manning stays at Tulsa. He's got a very young squad, he'll get a nice raise with little pressure. If he's successful he gets to jump to a bigger program in a year or two. I think coaches are looking at Wake and seeing a weak foundation (regardless of what we think, most coaches are going to assume our talent level isn't great), overbearing standards for recruiting, pressure from fans and ridiculous competition with L'Ville coming in next year. We were smart to aim high because a big name with a huge salary could probably deal with the situation, but a younger coach who is trying to establish himself might see this as a lose-lose despite the uptick in salary.

It's not irresponsible if the alternative is Russell Turner for $1.2M or whatever. If Manning is the best candidate that's willing to take our money, quibbling over a few hundred thousand a year is foolish.RW reports to Hatch who reports to the Board. Fucking irresponsible if they are cutting 1.8 million dollar checks for Danny Manning.
Well then we must either lure a coach out of retirement or find a really good high school coach.
???
contracts also aren't what they used to be
the bigger the job, the bigger the price tag

Source tells @NewsOn6 sports: TU offered Danny Manning $1.2 million salary, raises for assistants and "improved travel." #TulsaMBB
I think 1-1.5 is reasonable for someone like Manning to get him to leave his current digs for here and don't have a problem paying for that premium to get someone to come.
Nobody would have really cared if we paid Shaka, Howland, or Marshall 2.5 million though I don't think. Maybe I'm wrong.
It's not "rational" to talk about facts? The fact is Howland was given one of the biggest buyouts in recent High D1 history one year after having the #1 recruiting class in the country. This is indisputable.
Another fact is he burned a lot off AAU bridges. It's also a fact that AAU coaches help in recruiting.
What's not rational is to dismiss these indisputable facts.
Well then we must either lure a coach out of retirement or find a really good high school coach.
There seems to be a massive disconnect here. Since Howland was able to bring in the #1 recruiting class, wouldn't it stand to reason that the status of the bridges in the Southern Cal AAU scene didn't hamper his recruiting that much?
