Official Spurs Game Thread

I'll stick by my original post, donks and millenials aside. Carry on, gentlemen.
 
For the record hubris and overconfidence are not synonyms. The spurs may be overconfident but I doubt it. They certainly aren't a terrible team that lucked into a finals birth. They belong and are 1 - 1 against the heat this year.

Also, Popovich is a huge advanced metrics / new technology guy.

The spurs had the cameras and we're using this type of data a few years ago.

Hubris "pride above ones station" certainly does not apply to the team that has the second best record in the league over that last few years neck and neck with the heat.

I may be mistaken but weren't the Spurs way early on the corner three and no long twos bandwagons?

Any team with a brain understood why this is wise. It doesn't analytics to tell you that there's virtually no difference in shooting percentage in 2' range at that distance and that it's better to have a chance to get 50% more points.

Agreed. Just saying that Pop and the spurs, contrary to a previous post, use advanced metrics and have for a very long time. They were an early adopter for the one example I offered.

Well of course people know that 3>2 but I was saying that the Spurs were the first team I can remember to emphasize the corner three and build an offense with that being such a major part of it before the rest of the NBA seemed to catch up.

Also, I believe the Spurs have typically been near the bottom of the league in (long two fga/total fga) and I know they've avoided these types of possessions in clutch moments when the rest of the league tends to devolve into hero ball in the final possessions.

You're gosh darn right it's smart basketball! Smart enough to win 4 (soon to be 5) Championships, including one against your boyfriend LeBron James before he and Wade got into HGH together. I don't know what advanced statistics mean and don't really care. I know what advanced passing looks like and it's something the Miami Heat will be getting very familiar with in about T minus 11 hours.
