Sounds like Price has a 3 year out clause too - not sure that will be used by a 33 year old, but you never know.

That 3-year opt-out is weird. Why would he ever do that in a $31 AAV deal at age 33? The contract isn't front-loaded or anything. Yearly payout is $30M, $30M, $30M, $31M, $32M, $32M, and $32M, according to ESPN.

Gives him flexibility, you never know, in 3 years if he is still pitching well, he might opt out because he wants a change of scenery - I doubt it, because its very unlikely he gets a 4/$127 at age 33, but maybe.
 
As a sox fan it's weird signing him especially after the chippyness that always resulted when he was on the mound (especially with Papi). Reminds me a lot of the CC deal for the Stanks in terms of getting a former Cy Young winner who's lefty right around 30 (I think CC was 29?) to try to turn the tide in the rotation. Stanks had Moose and Pettitte at the end of their playing days Rasner who was shit, Chien and Jabba the hut.
 
Os seem to be closing in on Clevenger for Trumbo. Sounds like the Chris Davis era may be over. Wieters taking QO makes trade possible.

Thats a great haul for Clevenger, I mean, I know he had a 1.000 fielding percentage, but he is not good - and Trumbo is a defensive liability, but he can still hit well.
 
People now saying they are expecting Greinke to get the largest AAV deal, ahead of price and miggy - 6 years/$198 is expectation. Hes been consistently solid, but crazy dollars being thrown around.

Also, Cubs apparently high on Kazmir - would be ok with him, probably like him more than bringing back Shark.

Gonna be interesting in five years to measure which was the worse contract between Price and Scherzer. I'd bet Greinke gets a higher AAV but fewer years for sure.
