College Bball Thread

Three things I learned today.

There is a UMass-Lowell.
Their mascot is the River Hawks.
They beat BC 68-66.
UMass Lowell is some pretty serious #PSF in Mass.

Arkansas w/ a nice home win last night against a good Evansville squad.

Xavier continues to destroy people. That's going to be a good test for us at home in a couple of weeks.

According to Kenpom, UVA is now the #1 team in the country after their 16 point win over WV. UVA plays Villanova next.

The ACC is currently rated as the #2 basketball conference behind the Big 12.

1. Big 12
2. ACC
3. Big East
4. Big 10
5. Pact 10
6. SEC

Yeah they were helped a lot too by the fact that OU crushed Villanova the other night (OU was No. 9 and Nova was No. 1). After that, OU jumped to 1, and UVA used a strong performance last night to get up there as well.

It's a weak year at the very top according to KP. UVA would rank 6th among final rankings last year.

UVA looked like crap during the 1st half last night against WV.

Bennett must have really coached them up at halftime because they blew the doors off WV in the 2nd half and never looked back.

Thought both UVA and WVU looked solid. Maryland looked like a slightly better version of us... decent post play, decent dribble penetration, questionable turnovers. Diamond Stone plays soft, but has some pretty sweet post moves for a frosh. I can't stand Sulaimon, and he seems to simply be not terrible...

If Haas played for us he wouldn't be in the running for the kenpom.com player of the year award since we're ranked pretty low in kenpom's ratings right now.

This. UVA sucked hairy moose in the 1st half. Perrantes didn't look like he had his legs in the 1st half (he had an appendectomy something like 10 days prior), and Shayock has a bum right wrist which has affected his handles and his shot (plus he looks like he has lost confidence). But Perrantes turned it on in the 2nd half. Also, in a way, that is a typical UVA game - to start off slow but improve on both ends as the game goes on, and then they slowly strangle you with their D in the 2nd half. That said, this team is still not the defensive or rebounding team that it was with Atkins and Anderson last year, and I don't think that they're going to get back to that level of great D with this current line-up - the bigs just aren't athletic enough. They also lose a lot this year with Brogdon, Tobey, Gill and to a much lesser extent with Nolte. But a really nice looking recruiting class coming in next year.

Archie Miller and Dayton just beat Vanderbilt in their house. Very impressive.
