The 2016 Panthers Thread: Keep Pounding

Tampas gm fires coaches as a hobby. They never should've fired gruden all those years ago

WTF were they expecting with a rookie QB ?

They won 2 games in 2014 and 6 this year. With the last place schedule they'll be playing next year, they should have a shot at the playoffs. I don't think a new OC is going to help Winston's development either. He should be spending the next few months having the offense inculcated into his persona, not getting to know a new guy.

They're probably promoting the OC to head coach.

I have trouble falling asleep every night thinking about whether what remains of our secondary can stop anyone we play.

It helps me sleep knowing that we have the #1 scoring offense in the league. And we get J-Stew back, so hopefully our offense can keep our banged up secondary off the field.

It helps me sleep that not a single star receiver we'll see in the NFC playoffs will be anything close to what we faced in the final 6 weeks

Baldwin
Diggs
Cobb
Jackson

Obviously the Cardinals overall group is cause for concern

Football Outsiders breaks down Cam's season, really good. Film Room: Cam Newton

Nobody else could even run the offense that the Panthers ask Newton to run. That's not just about athleticism; the rookie version of Newton would have had no chance of playing well in this offense.

That's a great write-up by FO.

There is actually a 100% chance he ran a 4.4 forty at his pro day.

4.48 unofficial. Somehow everyone's pro day times are way better than combine. Color me skeptical.

That said he looked good when actually getting the chance to YAC some.

I'd rather face a group with one star WR than a bunch of solid guys all around because Norman can largely shut that star guy down and/or force them to alter their offense and move that guy into the slot to avoid #24. Either SEA or AZ will be a huge test for our secondary, no doubt

Yeah it's hand timed at pro day. Laser timed at the combine.

I see our path to winning the Super Bowl resting heavily on the offense - I think we're gonna have to score 35+ each game. I just see potential games with Seattle/Arizona/AFC Champ as shootouts for some reason.

Funchess has only been playing WR for 2 seasons (obviously just 1 in the pros). It often takes even standout college receivers 3 NFL seasons to adjust, so I think the fact that Funchess has provided as much as he has in his first season is very promising. I don't mean to jinx him, but if he can keep catching the ball, he has already proven he can get open, no matter what his 40 time actually is.

Also, my 3 year time line may be getting outdated given how much more difficult the CB position has gotten with all the rule changes over the past few years.

Q&A with Gettleman. Some good tidbits in there about Oher, Funchess, and his overall approach. No specific info about who will get resigned although he does say he's already been meeting with his staff about it.

I can't see him letting go of Star and Short. He's real proud of those picks. Hard to see him let Norman go given how precarious the secondary is right now. If Bene had turned in a strong year, I could see it.

I think this is completely wrong, the remaining teams in the playoffs as far as total defensive ranking are

1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8,10,11,12,17.

While the total offensive rankings are

1,2,3,4,5,7,9,10,15,16,19,22

Though probably all regular season rankings don't mean anything since everyone's current rankings are inflated significantly by playing shitty teams. For example the Panthers got to play the 32nd ranked defense twice, the 31st, the 30th, 28th, 27th, and 26th twice on the way to best offensive ranking.
