Transfer Williams NOT coming to Wake?

In one year it's unlikely he was leaving Wake with a degree... And it's not like he went somewhere else. Things fell into place and he decided to stay put. Would have been a nice addition but ultimately Doubt it really matters much either way for us in terms of W and L
Well no one seems to know which degree exactly our graduate transfers work towards, but I assume it's something like the MALS which is a one year MA.

I can't imagine a one year masters does anything significant for these guys. But I could be wrong. Thanks for the info

meh, whatever. Dumb take, dv7. If I'd followed your lead after the dumpster fire of the mid to late 80s, I'd never have been able to enjoy the glory years of the early and mid 90s.

To be completely honest, many athletes aren't getting much out of their education regardless. The one-year MA at least gives them an excuse to transfer and play for another year. But you're right, probably not helping their job prospects tremendously.

Could you expand on what you mean that they're not getting much out of their education?

You can ignore actual results and assume he "wasn't good enough" because DM has such a dynamo of talent coming in, or you can look at it realistically and realize that our program is so low and our staff's experience is so questionable that we couldn't hold onto a transfer who was handed the opportunity to earn a WFU degree and the chance to play in the ACC vs staying at UCF.

QFT, unfortunately.

Torgrim claimed his scholarship was pulled after all the knee problems/surgeries were known or the extent of such problems/treatment was evident.

Then he played for Manhattan and now plays in europe or something

But it didn't look like he was going to start for us. He could have even been beaten out for being the first wing off the bench.

I'm not sour grapes, I never understood him to begin to have a chance to start for us. I thought his primary purpose was to provide some experience bench with some outside shooting. I don't think Danny is losing sleep over this one, y'all.

For those who want to stay in basketball beyond playing days, getting that masters degree out of the way now is a big help as you go to the next step in the profession.

Exactly!

He thought he'd get more PT at UCF.

It's just my opinion, obviously, but student-athletes in general are choosing majors and scheduling classes around their athletic obligations. I'd think it is the exception when an athlete genuinely puts school first. That's what I mean. Just the way it is, I suppose.

Interesting point. Is an MA a prerequisite for broadcasting and coaching gigs? I hadn't thought of that.

I don't think it is an opinion that, in many instances, a revenue athlete's team schedule and responsibilities preclude certain study opportunities. Not everybody is committing academic fraud at the level that UNC is, but many programs exert a lot of control over their athletes' academic schedule.

I don't think that means they aren't getting much out of their education. I have plenty of students who schedule around their jobs and family obligations.

I mean, he's screwed either way. Play for shit coach in manning, or play for a slightly less shit coach in Dawkins (based on his lucky run to the SS a few years ago). It really doesn't matter man.

He wouldn't have earned a degree right? In order to be a post grad you have to graduate from the former to play at the latter. We obviously wanted him, but lets be honest. The kid wanted exposure and probably deduced that a larger school would help his basketball career. Once the other guards transfers it shifted the paradigm and he realized he could pile up stats during his senior year. While he wouldn't get the exposure he would get the numbers that intl scouts would be looking for. So he took the bird in hand and stayed put. It makes a good bit of sense. It sucks for us, because clearly we thought he could help our team, but it isn't as though he is turning down a WFU degree for a UCF one. It isn't like WFU is going to pay for him to complete his masters after his basketball is done (at least I wouldn't think so).

It could be as simple as he looked at the trim on UCF's campus then he compared it to Wake and realized he would rather be BMOC at UCF.

Love how people like RJKarl state an opinion as fact. All we know is that manning wanted the kid enough to offer him a scholarship to this team. To write this off as no big deal because we didn't really need him is ridiculous. We wouldn't have offered him if the staff didn't think he would make us a better team. How much better is up for debate but stop acting like you have some intimate knowledge of what is going on in Manning or a college kids head.
