2016 rio olympic thread

I'm dying laughing at the Olympics mascot getting Usain Bolt to carry a stuffed Olympics mascot around as he was celebrating. WTF?

See my earlier post. The Greco-Roman wrestling coaches have to throw a stuffed Olympic mascot out onto the mat to issue a challenge, now that's funny.

Got some live USA Women's Beach Volleyball going on right now.

Rio is an hour ahead of ET, right? How do they keep having all these events after midnight?

Because other events run long?

They're scheduled to start at 1 AM local.

Not all cultures are as 9-to-5-obsessed as ours. And thank God for that

No, this volleyball match has always been scheduled for midnight local time. I guess they're just trying to get live airtime for west coast viewers, but kind of weird for the athletes to start events at midnight.

Clearly the best ever at his sport but individual swimmers win multiple medals (4+) every single Olympics. They have more events than anyone, with similar skills sets, and it's a low impact sport that allows for daily training at a really high intensity.

I'm not arguing that he is the best athlete ever but he has 28 total medals. Phelps has more Gold medals than the next best has total. And the closest swimmer to him has 12. Only 17 swimmers have ever won more than 4 medals in a single Olympics.

With the 200 yet to be run and, as always, figuring in the cool factor, I'm ready to declare Usain Bolt as my favorite track dude ever. I'm dating myself, but he's eclipsing the great Edwin Moses.
