Manning is a horrible coach

Conveniently left Collins off that list... Dinos looks like an entirely different player this year...

Crawford had a terrible game. Everyone gets that. He's also one of exactly 2 players in the entire ACC averaging 6 or more assists per game so far.

We are a much better team in Manning year 3. That was an awful game from everyone not named John Collins last night. But, there is definitely improvement from Dinos and MW from last year. I'm concerned about Moore's improvement. Crawford will need to adjust his game to be less selfish since we actually have some people who can score this year. Otherwise, John Collins looks like a beast and I understand giving minutes to the upperclassman Wilbekin. When all of your shooters are off, its tough to find any good rotations.

I don't like giving McClinton or TVH any minutes, but Manning must like having some older guys on the floor. We have too many good shooters this year for this to happen too many times. We had open shots, we just missed them. We need Arians and Woods to be on their game shooting open threes. We also can't afford to have JC on the bench, as he's pretty much unstoppable in the paint against this level of competition.

I still don't like Manning's lack of time outs and lack of defensive adjustments, but we really don't have many athletic players on this roster right now. If you ever thought Manning would be leading us to a final four, I'm sorry, but I think he'll get us back to the tournament.

I appreciate your perspective. I'll give you that Dinos has played better as a true 4 this year than expected and has rebounded well. He gets a pass due to injury an being asked to play an unfamiliar position, power 4 versus stretch 4. So how have Wilbekin, McLinton, and Moore improved their games?

That's a different argument than "significant minutes". That's just the coaching staff believing that when they have to go to the tenth guy, TVH is more reliable than any of the other freshmen.

I never said significant minutes. And yes, that's the point. But understandable at this point in a freshman's season.

Wake is effectively playing an 8 man lineup with a 9th player getting spot minutes here and there. That 9th player has varied between Moore and McClinton based on match-ups.
We're actually playing a 7 man rotation with 2 players getting spot minutes...if you look at the stats. Collins, Woods, Crawford, Dinos, Wilbekin, Chill, and Arians are all getting ~20+ minutes (Chill at 19). McClinton and Moore average only around ~10. That's a much tighter rotation than last year when we had 4 players playing 28-31 min (CMM, Crawford, Devin, Wilbekin), and the rest of the minutes spread out across 6, all getting more minutes than McClinton and Moore do this year. We seem to be more consistent with the rotation.

Our assist/TO numbers are way better overall, including Crawford who went from 4.4/3.5 to 6/2.4, so our guard play has improved hasn't it? Better shooting overall too. Dinos and JC are definitely better. Moore was always called a project. Last year he'd play 1 minute and be exhausted.....but he has a lot more stamina this year. That's an improvement.

A lot of stupid going on in this thread. Manning might not be the best HC out there but he is by far not the worst, and not the worst in the ACC. He is still new to the HC game, maybe got the job a little early but has made good strides. Do you really think that firing a guy after finally rebuilding the roster (next year will be all of his own players), has brought in the best recruits that we couldn't even got a look from the previous 5 years and has shown to be a good teacher of big men.

give the guy a little more time, three years (this is only his third) from the shit storm he inherited is not enough. Besides, this is the best team we have had for a while and if BC had any semblance of his normal game last night things would have been different.

A few questions here: Do you think he will win an ACC road game this year, or will he clock in at 0-27 at the end of his 3rd year at the helm?

How many years does a coach need to be given to win one ACC road game?

If this is the best team we have had in awhile, how did Buzz' last team beat Carolina, Duke & NC State and end up with a winning record?

I agree with DCDeac. Not sure he'll be a "great" coach, but I do think he will be a very solid coach for us. And he does need time. Coach K was 11-17 after his 3rd year at Duke. After 5 years at Army and 3 at Duke, his record was 111-106. Folks here need to chill. Last night was a single, horrible game.

Ha. I remember when this exact argument was made for [name redacted].

Last night was a single horrible game, to add to lots of horrible games over the last two seasons. That is something we call a pattern.

Who do you think we should hire instead?

I agree with you, but this is the reality of our situation unfortunately and will be until Wellman is gone. It fucking sucks, but I feel a little bit better with Manning at the helm than [Redacted].

Can someone explain their expectations for a complete rebuild of a basketball program by year?

At BC and Clemson are our two best chances to break the conference road losing streak.

Do people really want to fire Manning after a November road loss to Northwestern at the beginning of year 3?

Over the last two years, weaker Northwestern teams have beaten Virginia Tech (yes, the great Buzz Williams lost to NW last year in the ACC/B10 challenge -- at VT), Indiana (twice), Iowa (twice), Purdue (twice), Wisconsin, Texas and Michigan. Can we just pull back the reins a little and let this season play out?

BC is our best chance, and I think Clemson is second best. We have a tough road conference schedule.

I would say outside of BC, our best conference road victory chances would be Pitt and Georgia Tech (even though we always play terribly at GT)

People are upset not because we lost but how we lost. We looked like an AAU team playing its second game of the day with no regard to time or score and Manning sitting there looking like he was wondering where they were going to eat dinner before the third game.
