Wake-Richmond Game

My biggest issue with JC's fouls are many are completely unnecessary. His first 2 fouls were silly fouls around the three point line. Heck, his third foul was attempting to stop a dunk. The first two were completely unnecessary and should never occur. If he stopped the sillly fouls he could get another 5-10 minutes easily and still be ok with fouling while playing tough D.

We are in deep trouble come ACC play. Collins seems prone to foul trouble and we give up way too many layups with him out. I still am baffled why DM doesn't play Moore when Collins is out.Our guards continue to struggle in man to man defense and we need rim protector. If not sub in Moore, then play a zone.

At this point Moore looks a lot more effective on defense as a rim protector than on the offensive end. So when he's in, I'd like our better offensive players on the floor. So no GMC next to him.

Childress is the future. And Woods. Wilbekin is a known quantity--not a good one. I hope DM is going to give them more and more minutes. Granted Childress has struggled but his defense is much better than Wilbekin's already and he will get better. Investing in Childress and Woods will yield more returns.
This and Chill will shoot better as the season progresses. He's a better shooter than MW.

FWIW, I was at the game and had a couple of observations. First, I can't figure out why Wilbekin is starting and getting 30 minutes/game. He's OK, but Crawford and Woods are by far our two best guards, and Childress and Wilbekin should just be spelling them when they need a break. Wilbekin is smallish, is a liability on D, and a streaky, at best, shooter. Woods should be in the whole game unless he gets tired and needs a breather. If those two played one on one to 21, I'd guess 21-5 Woods. Woods is better in every way. Bigger, stronger, faster, better bball IQ, better passer, better shooter, better rebounder.

I thought McClinton played very well. Nothing spectacular, but he is a good dirty work kind of player. Sets picks, doesn't make many mistakes, doesn't force things, solid D, and we are a better rebounding team with him in there, assuming we have some other bigs to help him.

Seems like our nucleus is Collins, Woods, Crawford and Dinos. Assuming no foul trouble, haha, those guys should all be playing 30-35 mpg each. Arians is solid on both ends, and he deserves the 30ish minutes he gets, too. I didn't realize how big and solid he is until I saw him up close at the game. Doral should just be spelling Collins, and he does pretty well when he is in there. I'd rather see Chill as the first guard off the bench, and Wilbekin 10 mpg+/-. I feel like Woods is pulled in and out of the game so much he hardly has a chance to get warmed up. If he played 35+ mpg, I feel like he'd score 20 ppg. And he's a strong dude and plays tough on D. He is one hell of a pickup by Danny. He's the real deal. McClinton with 15-20 mpg is probably about right.

Speaking of PT, Manning's substitutions are still mind boggling. I just don't know what he is thinking sometimes. We subbed seemingly every single stoppage in the first half, and no one ever seemed to have time to even get into the flow of the game. I always took a little bit to get a sweat going and really get 100% comfortable. Woods is a guy who is doing well in this revolving door so far, but it seems he is a guy who is in great physical shape and would be better and really light it up if he didn't get pulled in and out so much. Again, I really see him as a 20ppg, and high pct at that, if he were playing 35 mpg. I thought Collins should have come back into the game earlier after his 3rd foul early in the second half, but then again, I think he may have been sending him a message to be smarter on D. If you swing your arm to swat a block in college, you are going to get called 9/10 times. And with 2 fouls, first possession of the 2nd half for UR?!?! We probably need to get used to playing without him if he is going to do that.

I do like our late game "victory" team we used for most of the last 2 minutes. 4 guards and Collins. We can cover the 3 and break presses with the speed and ballhandling, and make more foul shots. That I did like from Danny.

Anyway, FWIW.

I agree, Woods is solid. He should play as much as possible over Wilbekin.

Danny hates guys chucking up 3's early in the shot clock. I honestly think Manning likes Wilbekin's shot selection and mid-range game. That's the only plausible explanation to have him out there.

This. Moore should be the fifth option concerned with alley oops and the offensive glass.

Just the concept of Moore in the lane changes the other teams thoughts about driving. It's amazing when the layup line starts that DM doesn't just toss Moore in there as that will, at the least, make them think about coming into the lane.

There's no reason they can't play 32-34 mpg. Many teams play players that much.

Agree with this post. It is so weird to say this to an RJ post. I don't think that ever happened on the politics board. It just goes to show you that everybody has some area in their life in which they are competent. No offense.

I just can't fathom that somebody likes the vpi stadium more than the Richmond stadium.

You've had some good posts here, too. You have some potential.

If Manning was willing to call a timeout every now and then, he could play players over 30 minutes so he doesn't have to water down his lineups with Wilbekin minutes.

Knowell, I hope you realize what happened here. This is big.

There is too much undeserved Childress love. If his name was Wilbiken people would be shitting on Manning for playing him so much. He's a 3* playing like a 3* freshman.

Basically. Both need to take far fewer shots. They need to not play with each other and only shoot from deep if Woods or Arians don't have a better shot or there's under 10 sec on the shot clock.

Can we leave the politics on the politics board? I think certain posters are morons when it comes to politics and it is irrelevant to their sports commentary.

The new video boards do look nice.

The exterior looks worse than the interior now, so I will give them that in the renovations. The architecture on that campus is beautiful. The Robins Center is an eyesore relative to the existing architecture. Cassell at least looks and feels historic. The RC looks and feels like modular construction.

Still don't get the Wilby dissatisfaction. Woods makes some boneheaded plays. Wilby is our third best 3-point shooter statistically and with number of makes. Woods is not an elite athlete that can run all day. He tends to make mistakes when he gets winded so I think 28 minutes a game is just about perfect. I think there are more TV timeouts in ACC play so I could see him tick up to 30 mpg but I like Wilby at 20 minutes especially with Chill missing 70% of his shots right now.

Has Collins grown 2 inches while at Wake? I seem to recall him being available as a borderline 3star because he was an average to below average sized 4. 6'7" or 6'8" He's a legit 6'10" now it looks like.

I think it's okay to say the word "politics." Like I took Dr. Sears for politics.
