BTW, the urban legend that this song is about drugs is disputed by the band who says it was about a traumatic flight.
 
Seaside is an interesting place -- complete top-down urban planning (which is what made it perfect for the Truman Show concept)

Was Gaetz ever allowed out of the house? Could he have been the inspiration of the movie? It would explain a lot about him.

As an aside, after The Truman Show, a movie called EdTV (Matthew M a Jenna Elfman) was made that was virtually the same theme. One day a friend and I were going out to lunch at the Century City Mall. It wasn't unusual to see people there offering opportunities to go to movie screenings. This one was. It was on the Wednesday before the Friday EdTV was supposed to open. I guess the previous previews got such bad feedback that they were trying see if the re-cuts were any better 48 hours before release. Needless to say, I used this knowledge not to see the film :)

If you haven't seen it, you should Kamau Bell's show about Portland. It's really good.
 
My extended family has been going to seaside every year since at least the early 80s. Maybe 70s, but I wasn't alive back then so I can't be sure.

Had Thanksgiving dinner in that Truman house on several occasions.
 
I also won their Turkey trot mile two years in a row. And got absolutely smoked a third year.
 
The year I lost, I think my runner-up prize was a t-shirt from the year I won.
 
Yeah we’ve been going for years, at first renting or staying at friends’ houses. Parents bought a very basic house here in 98, and my mom got it when they divorced a couple of years ago. She’s remodeling it now to make it more full time livable and since it wasn’t ready this week as it was supposed to be, her contractor rented us a baller house instead.
