Official 2023-24 NBA Season Thread - Celtics advance, T-Wolves survive for now

Great Spurs win over the T-Wolves! They were down most of the game and had a big 4th quarter. Wemby with 23/10/6/2/2. He had a tough time against Gobert, KAT, and Reid but played well overall. Missed two big FTs at the end that thankfully weren't the margin in the game.

The #10 team in the West beat the #12 team in the West. A 39 year old man had 36 pts, 20 reb (career high), and 12 ast in 48 minutes.
 
Same. It's a lot of boards but he's played a very long time. This was his 21st game with 15+ boards, basically one a season.
 
So this week the Hornets and Spurs beat the T-Wolves. Today the Pistons beat the Thunder.
 
I got my Hornets season ticket renewal info today. Almost a 20% increase. Are they fucking kidding? For an awful team that is openly tanking and can't keep their players on the court? I told my ticket rep that if they can trade Rozier's current production for a 2027 FRP, then they should expect my current payment to arrive alongside said 2027 FRP's production.
 
If you had told me Skal Labissiere had been retired for 5 years I would have believed you.

Yeah my ticket rep came by my seats last night at halftime to show me a presentation on the Spectrum renovations for next season and ask for commitment and deposit on seats for next season. I told her I have been coming religiously to watch our starters in street clothes for 2 years now, and our star player sits out games when he gets a haircut. Clifford's bizarre rotations has led to us getting blown out in the 2nd half of every game and it just hasn't been fun. And the Hornets are trading away players for future assets, so I told her I will pass for now. I could tell that I wasn't the only one with that message to her.
 
Yeah last night had to be a horror for the ticket department. Playing the Knicks on the day they send out the renewal increases, there are more Knicks fans in the building than Hornets fans, LaMelo doesn't play because it is Monday, the team gets their doors blown off coming out of halftime per usual, and Clifford gets ejected while LaMelo is laughing on the bench being serenaded with Lets Go Knicks chants. The whole situation was comical so I don't blame LaMelo for laughing, it was funny. But if he is the team leader he needs to be pissed that they are losing to the point of getting himself available to play, not on the bench yet again.

I'll tell you who doesn't laugh, is Brandon Miller. He is all business as basically a two-man team with Bridges while the rest of the starters are in street clothes. He dropped 29 while the focal point of Thibs' defense.
 
Yep. Brandon Miller is a baller.

The Hornets got 7 points from it's bench, 6 of those from Nick Smith. That's got to be close to a record for bench points.
 
Brandon Miller has been hurt multiple times this year but yet he always comes back quickly without missing much, if any, time. Lamelo on the other hand is getting a reputation around the league for being soft and that is a hard label to shake. Doesn't help when he sits out a game like last night for no apparent reason other than "soreness". You know who else is sore? Everybody in the league worth a damn and yet find a way onto the court.

That is fine for upper management via roster moves, but the coaches and players should still want to win. And you can't raise ticket prices 20% if you are tanking.

Plus, I'm not sure what they are tanking for. By all accounts, this draft class sucks balls. I believe the top prospect is Sarr's brother, so I'm not holding out hope. With that being the case, I have no doubt Silver would shovel us the #1 pick in this awful year so as to throw his hands up with regard to the usual ping-ponging that he gives us. See, you do get the # pick! Just not when it is AD, Zion, Wemby, or anyone else worth a damn. Enjoy the French Anthony Bennett, suckers!
 
It's become a joke watching Mark Williams - in whatever it is that he wears - over there at the end of the bench too.
