Steve Forbes credibility watch

The week Currie extended Forbes this board was calling for it. “Do it now before it’s too late.”

This group wanted to hire Steve Forbes as well as extend him.

Love on him now because he’s our Coach for at least 2 more seasons. That very popular decision was made. Own it and make the best of it. And dont screw it up again next time.
Forbes' original contract was through the 25-26 season. That contract was extended in 2024. Terms were not disclosed, but it looks like he'll be here through the end of the decade. The only thing that would move the needle on this is for Iowa to fire Fran McCaffery and then come after him. That may well happen.

Well, next season is going to be dictated by the preseason tournament (whichever one they play in). Coach is anti Q3 games, so continue to expect the Q4 home games and then a down ACC. They will have a road game vs the SEC, but will need to focus on Thanksgiving week. Rinse & repeat.
Next season will be dictated by who stays and who leaves. There is no guarantee Cam and Carr will return. Hopefully we have the NIL resources to retain who the coaching staff wants to stay. But in this day and age, you never can tell. Kids jump into the transfer portal simply to leverage their NIL deals. And some kids want to play on a team that will go to the NCAA tournament.

Anyone who switches foul prone bigs on quick guards (and leaves them on them) 25+ feet from the basket, might not be a very good defensive basketball coach.
Agree. Never have liked Reid being anywhere but around the paint in O or D. Why have your 7 footer out hedging on D on quicker guards, which is a recipe for fouls.

Just making sure that I understand - The Section 9 seats part of a season tix package that were not being used that you begged for a discount because you and your buddy could not afford?

Those?
Show the proof that I begged you for a discount. Or you are just a loser that loves making shit up.

of course they will keep him; he's 95-91 as a head coach, nothing special

making the ncaat isn't some kind of magical accomplishment
Obviously you don’t follow WF bball much as it got one horrible coach a long extension and apparently another extension for a coach that keeps us near the bubble?? So our ADs think it’s magical?

Do we have the longest didn’t-make-the-tournament streak of any P5 program? Gotta be up there I’d assume.
Not even the longest in the ACC. Here are a few that are longer or equal to us. Utah 2016, BC 2009, Cal 2016, Stanford 2014, Vandy 2017 (same as us), Georgia 2015, SC 2017 (same as us), Nebraska 2014, Washington State 2008.

Do folks seriously not remember that he took a team that had sucked absolute balls for a decade and had the worst vibes ever and got them to the NCAA bubble in what was a pretty fun and surprising season, remaking the team with transfers including an unheralded guy from Indiana State and another dude who won the Conference POY, winning the ACC Coach of the Year in the process and being likable and giving good vibes? Have you had a Wellman-esque bicycle-induced head injury?

The only thing more Wake than collapsing down the stretch and in the postseason is fans being afraid another school will steal their coach.
It's our collective delusion of grandeur.

It's the same reason why the "is the first four part of the tourney?" debate is a thing. A bunch of diatribes about some arbitrary distinction like it's even been relevant to us recently.

Yeah. That's part of the Wake institutional DNA like State being the scrappy underdogs who play hard in the postseason. Much like Wake loves to present itself as a top 25 university even though only one ranking has occasionally put Wake in the top 25 over the last almost 30 years. That's why the biggest donor took the team out to celebrate at Peter Lugar's before the ACC Tournament. That's why our administrators think facilities = success.

I’m a big Forbes fan, but he is not good at in-game management for an entire game - he goes brain dead for about a 5-7 minute stretch way too often. Our defense could be vastly improved and we play loose and sloppy for too long without him intervening. Other than that, he checks pretty much every other box for me (except he has been disappointing on the high school recruiting trail, although that’s been more than offset by his portal recruits, IMHO).

“Got them to the NCAA bubble”

I genuinely cannot tell if this is parody or truly the most LOWF post I’ve ever seen.
