Georgia Tech all over Rimmer
Heading into the month of July, the leading candidates to nab power forward Schuyler Rimmer (Orlando, Fla./Boone) were Stanford, Southern Cal, Vanderbilt and Florida; each was represented by an assistant on Wednesday. Georgia Tech, which is on his list, sent head coach Brian Gregory.
Rimmer’s a good player, the kind of guy who’s going to opt to go through you rather than around you. It’s fitting that Rimmer plays the game without one of his front teeth. Anticipating a good story, I had to ask.
“It happened in the eighth grade when I went up for a dunk and got caught up in the net,” Rimmer said. Unable to explain exactly what happened, suffice to say he’s minus a front tooth, hockey-enforcer style. Rimmer’s going to be a high-major recruit, where he’ll be a post with a decent midrange touch. Play him alongside a bouncy 4-man and you’ve got a nice tandem.
Packed house for Singer
Another Floridian, shooting guard Sam Singer (Miami/Ransom Everglades), made his Peach State debut. Singer’s competitive and prefers to have the ball in hand on offense. He’ll receive wide-ranging recruiting from talented mid-majors to various high-major programs. Yes, he’s scanning the stands (wisely) and relayed that Richmond, Stanford, Virginia Tech, California, Maryland and Kansas State have been at every one of his games this period. N.C. State’s Mark Gottfried, Central Florida’s Donnie Jones and Kansas State’s Bruce Weber provided the head coach presence.
