Bball Recruiting Megathread: Devin Mitchell on campus

Jeff [Redacted] ‏@WFCoachBuzz

Every single one of them got better this week. I am as excited about this group as I have ever been about any team I've coached!

Either ESPN's grading curve has dramatically changed or 2013's class is grossly inferior to 2012. The #100 player in 2012 was rated at 92. The #13 player in 2013 is 91.

Here's a rare bit of good Wake BB news from my source.

Apparently Wake is still "definitely" in the lead for Shelton Mitchell and his parents are ready for him to commit ASAP. My source thinks it will likely be in the fall/maybe during his junior season. Also, BJ Gladden is no longer reclassifying and will be graduating in 2013. He will likely be attending prep school as he'll only be 17 when he graduates, which surprises me considering he already has offers from Xavier, Tennessee, and VCU for 2013.

That is good news. Really good news.

Have we not offered Gladden?

My impression is that we have offered, but for 2014, so hopefully he goes to prep school and comes in w/ Shelton. Still think he's a huge sleeper. Rating services haven't really known what to do with him since they didn't know what class he was in. Only problem is he really fits the Moto/GMac role of a good athlete/scorer right now with his jump shot lacking. I know he's working extensively with Mugsy (so is Shelton) on his ball handling and is on Shelton's CP3 AAU team, and has been playing really well.

Settled in to watch Kam Williams and Baltimore Elite take on Mean Streets. Wake coaches here for Williams #PeachJam

Some MD poster went to see the Harrison twins the other day and had this to say about Kam Williams:

"There was no program so it was hard to keep track of all the players, but Kam Williams played alright from what I saw. He had a solid handle, and some decent moves to get to the basket. The star for bmore was easily Jamel Artis though."

[Redacted] finally making a legitimate move on a big man. Has anybody seen anything beyond his mediocre ratings? The profile I'm seeing seems a bit stale.

Wake Forest has offered 2013 PF Schuyler Rimmer, according to @Future150

Rimmer has offers from Wake, Florida, Marquette, Vanderbilt, Georgia Tech, Miami, Harvard, Tennessee, Georgia, BC, South Florida, USC, Virginia Tech, UCF, Houston, UAB, and Southern Miss.

ESPN - 70/3* - 28th ranked PF
Rivals - 3*
Scout - 3*

Buzz around the web suggests that he's going to rise. Considering that we need bulk and haven't made a ton of progress on a 2013 big man (what's up with Kane, btw?), Rimmer could turn out to be our best option...

He must be a lot better than his ranking currently indicates.

Also from today:

Schuyler Rimmer, a class of 2013 recruit from Boone (FL), said he holds offers from Marquette, Houston, Georgia Tech, Vanderbilt, Florida, Penn State, Stanford, USC, Harvard, Miami, Central Florida, and more. The 6-foot-9 power forward is also hearing from Georgia, Connecticut and Virginia, amongst others. Rimmer said of his favorites, “Right now, probably Florida, Stanford, Vanderbilt, and USC.”
After picking up five new offers—from Marquette, Houston, Georgia Tech, Florida and Vanderbilt—in the past several days, Rimmer is unsure of his timetable for a commitment. With many quality academic schools on his list, Rimmer discussed the importance of academics in his decision. “It’s gonna be big. Basketball is gonna end at some point. I wanna [get a good] education so I can get a good career.”

Another 2013 target, 6'5 combo guard Sam Singer (FL) is looking good:

Sam Singer keeps improving.Talented 6'5 comboG out of Ransom Everglades.The2013 prospect is well-deserving of his high-major offers #PeachSt

Evan Daniels ‏@EvanDanielsFOX

Sam Singer for Gold Coast with a nice cross to finish at the rim. Combo guard that can shoot too. #PEACHST

Singer holds offers from NC State, Kansas State, Miami, Harvard, Oklahoma State, Texas A&M, Boston College, South Florida, UCF, South Carolina, and Virginia Tech.

We have yet to make an offer.

ETA: Any insiders want to post excerpts from Telep's Peach Jam blog about Rimmer and Singer?

Telep:

Georgia Tech all over Rimmer
Heading into the month of July, the leading candidates to nab power forward Schuyler Rimmer (Orlando, Fla./Boone) were Stanford, Southern Cal, Vanderbilt and Florida; each was represented by an assistant on Wednesday. Georgia Tech, which is on his list, sent head coach Brian Gregory.

Rimmer’s a good player, the kind of guy who’s going to opt to go through you rather than around you. It’s fitting that Rimmer plays the game without one of his front teeth. Anticipating a good story, I had to ask.

“It happened in the eighth grade when I went up for a dunk and got caught up in the net,” Rimmer said. Unable to explain exactly what happened, suffice to say he’s minus a front tooth, hockey-enforcer style. Rimmer’s going to be a high-major recruit, where he’ll be a post with a decent midrange touch. Play him alongside a bouncy 4-man and you’ve got a nice tandem.

Ranking and profile extremely out of date, as if you couldn't tell from his offer list.

ETA Singer... didn't even see your request Strick before I poster the Schuyler tidbit.

Packed house for Singer
Another Floridian, shooting guard Sam Singer (Miami/Ransom Everglades), made his Peach State debut. Singer’s competitive and prefers to have the ball in hand on offense. He’ll receive wide-ranging recruiting from talented mid-majors to various high-major programs. Yes, he’s scanning the stands (wisely) and relayed that Richmond, Stanford, Virginia Tech, California, Maryland and Kansas State have been at every one of his games this period. N.C. State’s Mark Gottfried, Central Florida’s Donnie Jones and Kansas State’s Bruce Weber provided the head coach presence.

Julius Randle leads the Peach Jam in scoring (26 ppg) & boards (14 rpg). After him in scoring: Tyus Jones (24 ppg), Jordan Matthews (21.7)

Brian Flinn ‏@BFlinnFuture150
Just throwing this out there. 2013 SG Jordan Matthews hasn't missed yet. High level scorer

Wayne Staats ‏@WStaats8
Some of the days' top performers: Jordan Matthews (Cal Supreme) 26 pts, E1T1's Douglas Brooks with 5 3-pointers off bench.

Sounds like he's having quite a week.

Sadly that's not good for a program forced to look for under the radar talents.

Getting a kid from Santa Monica will take some doing....but who knows.

UNC 2 deep, UK 2 deep and Memphis 2 deep all watching Shelton Mitchell with head coaches on deck.

Doesn't sound promising.
