Retired US Soccer / World Cup Thread (RIP)

There's trial by fire and then there's burning someone at the stake. This is teething the line between the two.

I wouldn't discount the idea of a midfielder dropping into defense on Wednesday.

Interesting mix of players called. Pretty much anyone playing in Mexico was called, but then the Euros seem to be hit or miss. For example, why call Edu, but not Boca? Both are busy wasting their time with Rangers right now, and you could make the case that Boca could at least teach the young guys some stuff about playing in the back in the international game, even if you don't want to use him in the game.

LOL, 30 year old Alan Gordon got a late call up to the national team. WTF. Klinsmann is straight up trolling with that selection.

He must have read The Beckham Experiment this week. It's the only real explanation for such a ridiculous pick.

Chris Pontius and Eddie Johnson are laughing/crying themselves to sleep tonight.

So Shea gets the callup but DeMerit doesn't? Apparently form doesnt matter to Jurgen

Man, love the first goal from JOZY! The pretty cutback, and most of all taking the physical challenge from the second defender without diving and trying to get a call. Instead, he uses brute strength to brush the challenge aside and finishes beautifully. Beast mode.

Wish we'd see that more often in international play.

Many forget that Jozy was having a monster Gold Cup last summer before getting injured. Opening goal vs. Canada. Absolute screamer vs. Guadeloupe. Not sure how many he's scored since then but I only remember him playing in two matches (I'm sure there's been more). He had a goal vs. Slovenia (PK) and the game winning assist vs. Italy. He was carrying an injury during the "5 game tournament" an his club released him late so he really didn't get any PT. Long story short, JOZY is the least of my worries right now.

Rut-Roh never heard this before

@SoccerInsider: Klinsmann, on Timothy Chandler's status: "Timmy is not sure yet if he wants to commit 100 percent to us" #usmnt

The ball falling to Donovan's feet was fortunate. He took care of the rest.

I thought there was no such thing as luck or fortune in soccer? I thought everything happened because a player was/wasn't good enough to make a pass, strike a shot, be in the right position, etc.

Donovan was in the right spot at the right time. I still give the main credit of that goal to Timmy.
