NCAA Tournament Discussion Thread - One Shining Moment - UConn Huskies

18 game ACC schedule to return??
Interesting. Probably the most I have seen Phillips talk about this.

The entire league needs to create a unified message that we are getting the short end of the stick, and talk about it at every presser going into next season. How many people know ACC killed the B12 in games this season? Every single coach and AD needs to be in on this. They need to set the narrative and run with that the whole season.

We also need to copy the scheduling template the MWC is using. And if that means less conference games, so be it. WF has to do its part by stopping the meh ooc schedules and actually win a game or two in December against a team that matters. Setup a B12/B10/MWC mid-season tournament if you have to, in addition to the ACC/SEC challenge, which the ACC tied the "mighty" SEC this season.

Every bracket donk that said the ACC should we a 2-bid league should be called out in a coordinated effort by every ACC AD/Coach and laughed at. There needs to be a real coordinated effort here, because we are losing the narrative rn.

It’s cute an ESPN employee has the audacity to talk about conference media shills. Guess he doesn’t watch College Gameday during football season

Donk ass Jon Rothstein, one of the weirdest people in sports media, is one of the ones who called us a two bud league and is quadrupling down on it.

Who are these shills for the ACC? I basically see beat reporters and fans carrying the banner while the ACC administrators and ACCN/ESPN do nothing or even harm them.

I'd be fine going back to an 18 game schedule. With 18 teams, they could just split the conference into two 9 team divisions playing home and home games. The two additional games could be strategically scheduled to maximize conference Q1 games. Divisions can rotate every year.

Reasonable comments from Jim Phillips but way too late. "This season, the ACC is 11-3 against the Big 12, the conference widely considered to be the deepest in the country." I don't think I saw this stat during any of our games this season. Phillips wasn't even quoted saying this in the interview.

Well, he's getting torched for it now. If Davis, Brownell, Keatts, and Scheyer all mentioned him and laughed at his bad takes, and remind everyone not to take him seriously, it would be worthwhile. Don't think these reporters want to get embarrassed nationally unless they are 100% trolling.

ACC getting treated like the P6 red-headed stepchild and they need to punch back way more. It's serious problem.

Lunardi used to have a monopoly on bracketology, and now that others do it and have outperformed him he reacts like a little baby whenever anyone questions him. It's pretty hilarious honestly, but unfortunate that he uses his massive platform in such a lame way.

You could have Forbes and Capel have a twitter beef about how they would have done better in this tournament based on the ACC's success. Pump each program a bit, talk about metrics, some light trash talk to each other, etc. It would be funny. Get every coach to reshare it, post it on the ACC website, etc.

I just don't see any real pushback against this stuff, and the league needs to be more proactive and creative in responding to it. It affects all of them.

His "who is out!" argument is dumb because everyone that is unhappy with the selection process has also criticized the MWC's quality. They would probably start with them, Joe.

My main complaint about the current selection process is that wins against the field isn't prioritized enough. Texas had two wins versus the final field on Selection Sunday and they received a 7 seed. That's dumb.

If you lower inventory for the ACC network, do you get less money from the network? Would the now non con games have to be home games to keep the inventory the same?

I doubt they get more money for more inventory. Moving from 15 teams playing a 20 game schedule to 18 teams playing an 18 game schedule increases the ACC game inventory.

The ACCN would also get the rights to the OOC home games; so, if one of the two additional OOC games were played at ACC on campus venues, the ACCN would televise those games. Don't like reducing the number of conference games as those are the most compelling contests for the players and fans.

It's funny that Forbes had been lobbying for 18 games, the league decided to stay at 20 in February, and now like a month later we're talking about 18 again?

They made it seem like 20 was a done deal in February. No sense even talking about it anymore.

It’s ironic since we have arguably the media’s two favorite schools in the conference. But shitty SEC football teams get love through osmosis in football but that doesn’t translate to this sport.

lunardi is pretty good at staying relevant despite being unimpressive at forecasting

might be all you need for the job

Reducing the number of conference games reduces losses and increases chances for quality non-conference wins.

Your last sentence must be from 20 years ago. Wake-SMU will be far less compelling than most potential major conference non-con opponents. The same is true for Wake-Pitt and all but a few ACC opponents. It's in the ACC's best interests to reduce risks and increase opportunities. The ACC is better off losing two games and picking up Q1/2 games against MWC or major conference teams.

OK, if you think that the game that is dropped is against SMU or Pitt. Not so much if the game dropped is UNC, Duke or NC State. SMU and Pitt have to play someone. Can see the ACC sticking WF with them. No matter how many ACC games are scheduled, UNC and Duke are playing twice, and UNC/NC State are playing twice. WF is always the school that gets hosed when the schedules change.

I mean Rothstein is getting dunked on pretty hard about this by a lot of people. Not to defend him because what he said was stupid regardless, but he only said that the possibility was increasing of a 2 bid league not that he thought it would/should happen.

A 2 bid league is so far from reality that I don't think the ACC should even be upset when morons suggest it. What the ACC does need to do is fight against the idea that the ceiling for the ACC is going to be a 4-5 bid league moving forward, because that could seriously happen and would leave schools like Wake with almost no margin for error.
