Given the fact they ran people against sure winners in UT and DE and have threatened to run people against Hatch and Lugar next year, could the TP run someone for POTUS if they don't like the GOP nominee?

I'm not sure they will because they are so fragmented, but it isn't completely out of the range of possibility.

I'd saiy it's 8-1 against.

I'd have to guess that, if they did, they would effectively rob the GOP candidate of the necessary votes to beat Obama.

I think Deadbolt is spot on - you'd have a reverse Gore situation with Nader in 2000.

For what's it worth, Romney had an op-ed today in Orlando Sentinel today giving props to Tea Party - he was also stumping at an H&R Block in O-town today.

I really don't think they care.

I don't think they'll do it, becuase they aren't orgnaized enough nationally.

2016 would be a better year to attempt it. They wouldn't be doing themselves any favors if they did in 2012. At least in 2016 there won't be an incumbent to compete against.

I'm not really politically savvy, but I don't see any conservative candidate unseating Obama. Not because Obama is unbeatable in absolute terms, but because I don't see any legitimate GOP contenders out there. The Tea Party may be better off gaining exposure and publicity in 2012, when there's little hope of a Republican victory anyway, by floating a candidate out there in order to increase their influence for 2014 and beyond.

Trump has said he'll run as an independent if he's not nominated, so there's that.

Then again, I don't really think Trump will run in the first place.

Trump isn't running. He knows he can't win and he'd lose his TV show and all of the rerun revenue.

All he's doing is trying to hype his show by being a total disgrace to humanity. He's smart enough to understand he's fomenting hate and bigotry. For this he deserve to lose everything he has.

Good way to make me hate Romney is to cater to the tea party....I think Romney would make a good candidate on the national scale, but I don't think the religious right will ever let it get that far....just like in 08

Isn't he bankrupt every few years?

"Bankrupt" is a bit vague. Personal bankruptcy? Corporate? Chapter 7? Chapter 11? I suspect any bankruptcy filings associated with Trump were by one of the myriad of corporations he has a hand in, and were Chapter 11, reorganizations.

Trump's casino holding company went into chapter 11 a few years back. I could be mistaken, but I believe at this point Trump doesn't own a substantial stake in his name sake company. He is little more than a brand.

I tend conservative, but if Trump is nominated I will either vote independently or, similarly, not at all.

Hate and bigotry? You can't be serious. How?

Being a birther or using their schtick is racist and hateful.

If Obama was white and his name was Joe Smith, no one would be chellenging a Republican and Democratic governor of a state who publicly stated that birth certificate that has been shown online and in the press is legal.

Being a birther is dumb, but I can't see how it's racist or hateful. And how do you know no one would challenge his status if he were white?

Because TWO governors of Hawai'i have stated unequivocally that he was born there. The newspaprers have stated the hospital sent the birth notice not the family.

If he was white no one would be saying he's Muslim either. He went to a Catholic school in Indonesia. It would have died immediatately if he was white.

His name and his race make him a target for hate from the nutcakes. Yes, everyone who doesn't 100% believe Ovama is a natural born American is a hate-filled, racist nutcase.

I don't care if FORTY-TWO governors of Hawaii have said he was born there. The only thing that says about birthers is that they're not too bright, hard-headed, or both. You cannot conclude that they are racist and hateful.
