I have a lot of sports jerseys and I'm trying to determine what I should do with them when I get "too old" to wear them?

I also don't know how old is "too old" so I turn to the boards for common sense.

Poll forthcoming, but explanation as to why you voted as you did is helpful too.

ETA: The 30+ pretty much means you can always wear a jersey and it's not shameful.

I think you can wear them young (past college age is the phase-out period) and then when you're retirement age. I don't mind an old guy sporting a jersey- usually over a button-down or polo. But the in-between years are a little much.

ETA: I thought this was limited to wearing one at a game. I don't think wearing them in general public is smart, especially suburban white guys, but have no problem if people do.

I think the answer depends on where you are going.

I am 43 and would not consider wearing a sports jersey just to bum around town. That ship has sailed for me.

However, if I attend a Wake Football game (note that I have used the word "if" when I formerly would have used the word "when"), I don't see any "age" problem in my wearing a Wake Forest football jersey to cheer on my team.

I usually wear a jersey to Wake football games. Sometimes I wear a basketball jersey over a tie-dye.

I also wear basketball jerseys when I go out on the beach because it's good for straps on cooler/chair, but easily comes off. I don't just wear a jersey in public unless I'm going to watch a game with friends or something at a bar/at the house of somebody.

Depends on the use - if you are going to a game? Fine. If you are going to a bar to watch the game? Fine. If it is gameday? Fine. If it is comical? Fine.

Honestly, do whatever - during football season I wear a Bears jersey every sunday. I also wear Cubs logo'd clothes on the weekends, I only have one Cubs jersey and usually only wear it to games. Also, I fall into the 30+ bracket.

I only have a Soto jersey as my one Cubs jersey haha. Need to remedy that when we get a player that has some staying power/looks better than Castro and Rizzo do right now.

You could have phrased this differently considering the most famous statement on this issue is "I don't wear jerseys, I'm 30+".

I personally think its kinda weird once you're the age of the actual athletes. I'm a grown ass man, I don't need to be wearing the jersey of another dude my age just because he's good at sports.

You're already worrying about what you're too old to do. Wow!

By the time you are thirty, you'll need a roicking chair, Depends, Geritol, Viagra, Ensure and Activia.

What if you are wearing a retro? I am all for people wearing jersey's to games.

Where is the "Why do you give a fuck what other people think" option?

You probably should give a fuck if others think you look like a clown.

Voted 25 but that is for baseball, football and hockey: Basketball jerseys look stupid on all adult guys not playing the game.
A couple of years ago, I would have voted 'Never', but it is fine to wear jerseys to games. Adds to people watching to see some 5'8" 300 pound dude wearing a ratty Emmitt Smith, Atlanta Michael Vick or Jimmy Clausen jersey.

On an unrelated note, this thread highlights one of my boards pet peeves: it's when posters give detailed responses...and they think they're answering the question at hand....but they're not. The question is "how old....?". So if you articulate your preference...but don't mention your age...you are not helping the original poster. We can't tell if you graduated last year or if you were suite-mates with RJKarl.

just scooped this. finna wear it to the park/beach all the time:

I sport my Cam Newton and Steve Smith jerseys to the Panther games I go to. Wife has one too, and we're both almost 30. I wouldn't wear it to work, or out to dinner, but I don't think any less of people who do wear their jerseys around town (except that one guy at the grocery store with the Rae Carruth jersey...WTF man?). So I guess put me down for the 30+ category.

i've phased out my baseball jerseys (the only ones i've rocked since hs). the last one to hang was the beej rays' world series jersey. still have it, but i dont wear it. probs will never buy another. LOVE the shirzey though. rocking my aubrey huff o's one right now after my morning workout in it.

nothing more WT than an nfl jersey. i'll never forget the classy neck, in the club section no less, for heckling 18 yo me for wearing a bucs shirt or jersey to a panthers game. dude straight up was trying to fight for me rocking the opposing team's colors. classy bunch, those panthers fans.

That is the worst look in history. Some douche who was hobnobbing with Ron Wellman in his button-down, dress slacks, and loafers throws a jersey on right on top of it? At least he took off the blazer first. It's a sporting event, not a cottilion. Put on some jeans and a t-shirt under the jersey or gtfo.

30. Only football jerseys and only to games.

this is just because you're an NFL hader
