NFL to switch pro bowl from AFC v. NFC to fantasy draft (NWT)

http://sports.yahoo.com/news/nfl-pro-bowl-rosters-determined-180337907--nfl.html

The NFL has decided to eliminate the traditional AFC vs NFC pro bowl match-up. Instead fans will vote and create a pool of players then captains will draft the players for each side.

The stuff at the end is also a little weird. I actually had to check to make sure it wasn't April 1.

I felt like this concept would work better as soon as the NHL did it. Hopefully it improves the product. Probably not though.

Interesting changes, but it's not going to encourage me to watch the Pro Bowl.

I don't think people get that hyped about QB-WR hookups the way they do about an elite PG throwing alley oops to an elite SG/SF in the NBA All-Star Game. The Pro Bowl just is. I assume there will still be Pro Bowl kickers and specialists honored but they just won't play.

I saw on Twitter that the Pro Bowl does better on TV than the All Star game. That seems hard to believe to me. I've watched the AS game since I was a kid but I don't think I've sat through more than like...5 minutes of a pro bowl, and I'm an MLB and NFL fan.

If only the NFL could produce as good of a product as the NHL...

The might as well just have the two "captains" play a game of Madden 2014 on live TV and call that the pro bowl.

I might not watch the game in this format. But I would watch the draft. it would be great if they were all standing around in a group waiting to be selected like it was a schoolyard. Be fun to see who feigns being upset at going last, etc.

For kids that's never enjoyable. But for multi-million dollar all-stars, it could be funny.

While we're at it...gives me an excuse to post the greatest Pro Bowl moment ever

Surely punctuated by lots of shouting about "disrespect", "haters," etc.

The should choose the roster as normal, but then make the skill position players play the line and let the lineman play the skill positions. That, I would watch.

True, but we already get that with the last player left in the green room at the real draft.

There really isn't much reason to watch the Pro Bowl after 5 weeks of preseason and 17 weeks of regular season and 3 weeks of playoffs.

The draft at the NHL All Star game is entertaining. The guys have fun with it, they bring the last four out together for group embarrassment, and the last guy chosen wins a car. It probably helps that it’s at night and most are likely not sober.

» Stopping of the Game Clock -- Beginning at the two-minute mark of every quarter, if the offense does not gain at least one yard, the clock will stop as if the play were an incomplete pass. This rule will make the team with the ball attempt to gain yardage toward the end of each quarter.

If they REALLY wanted to change the game (and curry favor with advertisers), they'd make this change for the end of the halves. This would stop kneel downs and reward the defense for TFLs late. It could introduce "2 minute defense" into the lexicon as teams play more aggressively to stop the clock and get the ball back.
