SBJ via Techsideline: Fox taking in the shorts regarding revenue and Fox Sports 1

I think the ACC would be fools to continue to pursue a cable network. Instead, they could be pioneers in expanding the ACC network via their online streaming network. That's where this is all going, and they could be the ones to really push it...especially if they could leverage their relationship with ESPN to add a channel to the WatchESPN app that is all ACC.

Does it matter?

So Fox is paying out the ass for its programming and is selling it for pennies on the dollar. That's definitely going to work out. Here's an idea Fox, if you really want to beat ESPN, skip the cable television outlet and build an online portal to put ESPN3 to shame, and then make an app for it thats available on every device.

Of course it is going to lose money for at least the first few years. You can't get the per sub rate up until you have good programming. So they are paying expensive talent, with marginal programming that can not demand a premium price. AS most of know good sports programming is crazy expensive and some of these deals are locked in for a decade or longer. The NBA is up right now, but until they start having events that everyone wants to see they are going to lose money. Feel pretty certain the people at FS1 know this isn't a short term thing.

Fox also just spent a crapload of money to take over broadcasting USGA golf events starting in 2015.
