The 1939 Duke team entered the Rose Bowl game with a 9-0 record, having not allowed a single point scored against them all season. That is, until USC scored a touchdown with 1 minute remaining to beat them 7-3. (Bwahaha!)
 
The Jay Wilkenson [sic] mentioned in the article is the son of celebrated Oklahoma football coach Bud Wilkinson. I guess Bud wanted him to play for Bill Murray.
 
Duke used to be really good in football. It's easy to forget that because it was a long time ago, but every time we play at Wally World, it makes me do a double take when is see the Rose Bowl, Cotton Bowl, and Orange Bowl plaques.
