IMF leader charged in NYC with secual assault

I'll bet he's partied with Berlusconi.

I love the irony of this assclown being a devoted socialist, traveling the world and staying in $3K/night suites. Vive le proletariat.

Socialist hypocrisy? Merde! :rulz: Kind of like the RR congressional clown from FL soliciting male pages.

But he a deal on the room and paid somethnig like $650/night :)

Socialist or not - being a Socialist just highlights the hypocrisy - but why are the so-called experts, who are demanding austerity from governments and people all over the world, staying in luxury hotels? Maybe they could be taken more seriously, if they set a better example and not splurged where ever they went.

The scariest part of all this is that Marine Le Pen becomes an even more viable candidate for France's presidency now.

At least she isn't as scary as her father. Also, after Sarkozy deported the Roma and declared veils illegal, do you see much difference between him and the Le Pen's?

$3000 a night is a ton of money. Surely there has to be a nice place to stay in NYC for less than that.

Did anybody see The Daily Show bit on this? Gold. Something to the effect of "The IMF chair assaulted an African. It's like he made up his own political cartoon."

Plus he didn't have to pay for a high end hooker. The maid was included in the price.

(too soon?)

I think Marine is just better at hiding her true colors than her father was. If her party starts building a ton of momentum and gaining seats I bet her tune hardens.

They're in the same place as all the tea partiers in the red states who ranted and raved about "Big Government" and decrying taxes who, after a nasty spat of tornadoes, have whiplash from turning so fast towards Washington with their hands out. Hypocritlandia.

Exactly. And if they don't get their Big Government disaster handouts quickly enough they'll keep complaining.

And of course, you have to mention Bobby Jindal was against certain types of disaster funding that other states would use.

That's because Bobby Jindal was a fucking idiot who was more interested in creating a stance to run for higher office than he was in trying to help the people in his state.

Since this thread is well on the way to being hijacked (and I have played my part in it) what the hell, here it goes:

There is a great deal of difference between disaster relief, which governments have been engaged in since, well ... there have been governments, and "disaster relief" that has gone on for decades, if not centuries, and with little hope of improvement, only more decades, if not centuries, of additional "disaster relief."

I don't begrudge help - from any source - for anyone who deserves it, or needs it. I do question "disaster relief" that has been institutionalized for decades and has primarily managed to maintain - if not perpetuate - the problem.

In order for a government- a small, unintruisive government- to actually be able to respond to a disaster, you have to have enough employees, resources, and money to do so. During large-scale and wide-spread disasters, FEMA is usually the on-point agency but they borrow many employees from other agencies and utilize resources far beyond their own and their own budgets to respond. That's what the tea partiers do not realize.

And I think there's an underlying connection between that and this situation regarding Strauss-Kahn. It's fine and well for so-called socialist politicians to expect wealth-spreading and austerity to benefit society. The hypocrisy is when they're staying in high-end hotels in the heart of world capitalism and using their position of power to get away with preying on a nameless hotel employee. Hope he enjoys Rikers.

But 94, I think that's the point. I think the small government folks want disasters to be a local problem. They'd rather the federal government use taxpayer money to fight wars overseas rather than helping Americans overcome tragedy. It's an horrible stance, but it's consistent.

Partly disagree. These people do not want to pay any level of government taxes. Right now, the smaller the government, the worse the economic situation. So relying on cash-strapped cities, counties, or states to intercede is silly and useless. Besides, in the event of a disaster, most of the resources and revenues these levels of government get comes through federal channels anyway.

Ultimately the point is that salvation doesn't come from nothing. If you want help, you have to realize it costs. The other thing that I find amusing is when these people decry the increases in their private homeowners insurance. This is private sector/market economy at work. Just like with gas prices: NOW they call for government involvement.
