Didn't records count before 1973? If not why?

Not only that but The Chief played most his career after 1973 and had nearly 200 more boards than Faried.

In fact without a shotclock getting this many rebouns was mucvh, much more difficult.

Here's who Faried trails:

Tom Gola* F La Salle 1951 1955 118 2,201
Joe Holup F George Washington 1952 1956 104 2,030
Charlie Slack C Marshall 1952 1956 88 1,916
Ed Conlin F Fordham 1951 1955 102 1,884
Robert Parish* C Centenary 1972 1976 108 1,820
Dickie Hemric F/C Wake Forest 1951 1955 104 1,802
Paul Silas C Creighton 1961 1964 81 1,751
Art Quimby C Connecticut 1951 1955 80 1,716
Jerry Harper F Alabama 1952 1956 93 1,688
Jeff Cohen F/C William & Mary 1957 1961 103 1,679
Steve Hamilton F/C Morehead State 1954 1958 102 1,675 [13]

I think his is the record for what they are considering the "modern era." They basically are trying to distinguish between the current style of play and the "pre-modern era" when the style lended itself to more rebounds (faster play, more possessions, etc.) That is my understanding of the reason for the distinction.

The pre-modern era had no shot clock. The scores were lower not higher.

The pre-modern era also lended itself to essentially playing in speedos. I personally wouldn't be too eager to box anyone out if their nutsack was flopping out from under their shorts.

Don't worry about it, CBS is just trying to give us a reason to watch this complete snoozefest of a game.

Vad, I showed you the scoring of the team of the top rebounder. This arcle shows the scoring of USF's championship year:

Russ' team with fellow HOFer KC Jones only scored 72ppg.

Is Vad related to Alicia Silverstone?

Scoring != pace (i.e - the thing that effects rebounding totals)

Shooting %'s were lower, meaning there were more possessions and more missed shots to rebound for the same scoring levels.

The emphasis on high shooting %'s and efficient offenses didn't start until much more recently.

Something you may not know is that in those days you shot FTs for all fouls. Thus teams got 8-12 extra FTs.

Scoring was less back then than it is today and possessions were longer.

As to "efficiency" remember today's stats have that incrased by 3pt shots.

According to the NCAA only 100 shoot as highly as 45% as a team this year.

Thus if back then they shot only 40% (which is probably low), yo uare talking about a maximum of 6-8 more misses between the two teams back them.

If Gola got 1/3 of his team's reounds, the result would be 2-2.7 rpg. He's still have more rebounds than Faried.
