Cory and Riley are the only ones who didn't suck. And Riley was a last second commit.

Ted Stacitas started his sophomore year (against GW?) until getting hurt

Mike McGlamry - involved in NFL concussion case

Jerry McManus - is an assistant coach UL-Monroe and his son was a backup at Wake?

Jamie Harris (transfer from UGa, started first game in '84 and was knocked out of the game with a concussion)
Foy White

May be entirely wrong on this, but wasn't All-American punter Chuck Ramsey was also a QB, and may have gotten an early start in his first or 2nd season?
And bat signal to BKF to recount the brief career of Karl Sweetan.

Jay Venuto

Jay Venuto's story of the 1979 season has all the stuff of a truly great sports movie. Venuto sat on the Wake Forest sideline for three seasons, patiently waiting for his opportunity to be a star. The redshirted quarterback was called into then-offensive-coordinator Mike Working's office during the spring of 1979 and presented the offensive stats from the spring scrimmages. Coach Working asked Venuto's opinion on who should be starting quarterback in the fall.

Venuto responded, "me."

So there you have it, the opening scenes of the Year of Venuto or whatever better sports movie title you can think of. What would follow is the dramatic game against the highly, highly favored Georgia Bulldogs where 57,000 fans in Athens watched in horror as the Bulldogs fell to the formerly 1-10 Deacons, led by Venuto, who connected on 20 passes and threw for 283 yards and three touchdowns.

The next year with Venuto under center was so close/so far away from matching the magic of '79. Statistically he was every bit as efficient as the previous year, but check out these 4 losses on the way to a 5-6 record:
MD 10/11
VA 21/24
CL 33/35
SC 38/39

Wow 4 games by a total of 7 points. 79 was fun. That amazing comeback vs Auburn (I was there) was awesome. Coach Mackovic's short half-time speech made Sports Illustrated which was cool to see. I went to the Tangerine Bowl which was fun except we played a very good LSU team. Game was never close.

Woof.

another deaconsig lie by the lying liar

Big fight at the DKE house my freshman year involving drunk and stupid football players v. frat guys who just wanted to hang out and have a responsible number of brews. Elkins was definitely the QB then. Barnhill after that.
