Lots of improvement from 2010 to 2011 starting with the record as well as productivity. Tanner Price as a 19 year old 2nd yr starter improved from 7 TD's and 1,350 yds to over 3,000 yds and 20 touchdowns. Look for same level of improvement into his JR season as I look to that entire class to take the leadership reigns.

Likely JR starters : Nikita Whitlock, Zach Thompson, Kris Redding, Mike Olson, Justin Jackson, Duran Lowe and Danny Mack w/ sophs Allen and Noel joining in.

On the other side: Price, Harris, Campanaro, Chase, w/ 1 sr OL and a slew of sophs/ Rs Fr.

Kick game should be solid.

Sr leaders from among Ehrmann, Bohanon, Garrick, Betros, Kenny and Haynes.

Agree with everything except the kicking game. If our placekicker continues his current trend, and if a 35-yard punt is considered a plus in our punting game, then we still have major problems.

We have both a big leg punter and kicker who have never gotten a shot, and I hope we see both of them next season. Grobe should have his ass kicked for every time we punt inside the 35.

The big leg kicker you speak of was a consistent 10 short of Newman's kickoffs in warm-ups and the big leg punter is very inconsistent right now.

I'd like Newmann to have a bit more leg strength, but he's fine otherwise. We do certainly need more from punting, though. In both distance and consistency. I'm worried about the O-Line, but our skill positions on offense should be strong. Defense needs to continue to improve, and hopefully Noel won't have a slump next season. I would also love if we had a Kickoff Specialist that could just boom the ball down the field to let Jimmy focus on scoring points.

Newman had a fine year on FGs. I wish we had better KO distance.

Newman generally kicks off to about the 10, which isn't terrible, but he has no hang time, and the combination of that plus our shitty special teams tackling meant the return generally made it past the 30. Besides a general FG consistency within 35 yards, I was really unhappy with Jimmy Newman this year. Wulfeck was punting pretty well in the last 2 or 3 games, though.

I disagree with this. He had an average year on FGs, at best. When we really needed a FG, myself and pretty much every other Wake fan had zero confidence in Newman.

That's not a fine year.

Newman was solid to good on field goals. Most college kickers suck. Didn't help that we had some issues with longsnapping.

Doesn't the offensive line have to be the biggest concern?

Replacing two safeties may take some time to work out as well.

Until further notice, my biggest concerns will continue to be with line play on both sides of the ball.

I'm not concerned about replacing the offensive line. It's not like we could get much worse.

It's actually a very similar situation to a few years ago when we lost DeGeare, Griffin, Birdsong and McMillin. The same guys who made up this year's terrible line were the ones that replaced them -- Weaver, Hoag and Godfrey along with Looney, who like DeGeare will be the one actual loss. And there wasn't a drop off at all when we replaced those guys -- if anything, we got a bit better the next year.

I'm also a lot more excited about the current group of youngsters (Preble, Goodwin, Heartsill, Intemann) than I was about the guys who are graduating when they stepped in. A starting line of Chase, Heartsill, Williams, Summers and Preble should be okay, especially if guys like Ford, Bolling and Blitch can step up to join the rotation.

:werd: Fingers crossed that the big uglies get it together for next year. Plenty of new faces, but we won't know much until they suit up and play.

I really want to move Ford back to DT, he is fast and huge. 6'3 - 315,

Considered an outstanding defensive line prospect ... Had 58 tackles and 10 sacks on defense ... Named first team all-area on offense by the Palm Beach Post ... First team All-Palm Beach County selection at center ... Played for a Pahokee dynasty that won three straight state titles in 2006, 2007 and 2008 ... Rated the No. 67 defensive tackle recruit nationally by Rivals.com ... Timed at 4.9 in the 40

He is a complete waste of athleticism on the O-Line. We could find multiple 300 pounders who could block just as well.

From another thread:

The Circle of Offensive Line Play at Wake Forest

OL struggles --> "Don't worry. Wait till they get some more experience."
OL struggles --> "I know they're seniors, but wait till these young OL get on the field. They're going to be studs."
OL struggles --> "What did you expect they're only freshmen and sophomores?"

Repeat.

I'm optimistic about our O line. I know they are relatively young, but they are BIG, pretty strong and seem to have an attitude. They also seem like hard workers.
We also have, in my opinion, some very solid depth developing in our O line due to a few good years of recruiting.
I know it's too early to tell, but I'm feeling good about it.

ref the D line.........we still need some more beef.

If Ford had the athleticism to play on the DL, the coaches would have kept him there. He doesn't. The speed he does have is best utilized on the OL.

I also don't look for much of a contribution from Kris Redding unless lightning strikes.

Will we have get anything out of the Nease boys?

When is speed used on the O-line at all? I can see quickness being a necessity, but without pursuit, speed is a waste.

Considering the fact that Riley Skinner was 3rd on the depth chart at one time, alongside the fact that Kenny Okoro has been a #1 CB on our team for 2 years, I don't find our coaching staff to be infallible in talent recognition

I think it's great that you have such faith and trust in them, though.

Ford may have run a 4.9 at 270 lbs, but he doesn't at his current weight.
