Interesting read on TX recruiting. Given the recent success we've had with under-the-radar prospects from TX (Givens, Tanner, JRoc), thought this might be of interest. It seems that the overall level of competition across the state breeds a lot of quality football players nobody has ever heard of, though top prospects pan out about as well as coming from any other state.

That seems about right. There's no reason to think that the top physical specimens coming out of the state are any different than the top physical specimens anywhere else. It's entirely likely that there are more of them though, and not all good players can receive the attention that gets them recruited by the big schools.

Exactly. I mean, how many saw 3* RB Chris Givens (according to scout) as a potential NFL early entry.....at WR? We've been able to successfully tap into a population of players in the TX high school system that fall into this category.

Having seen Houston Hightower (State finalist team) running back Joshua Wilhite that we've recruited...we may have another Texas diamond in the rough.

We've also had our share of Texas recruits who couldn't make it at Wake and that may have contributed to Billings leaving.
